Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 1000 Overview

The ELC Pro HD 1000 Flash Head from Elinchrom is evidence of the company's continued commitment to pushing the envelope in monolight design. Elinchrom has packed the ELC Pro HD 1000 with professional features we've come to expect from a flash head of this caliber and added quite a bit more. Short recycling times coupled with fast flash durations make freeze-motion, stop-action shooting possible. In fact, up to 20 frames per second is possible at minimum power. An intelligent low noise, temperature activated fan keeps the head cool and lengthens the life of both the flash tube and modeling lamp. A pre-flash detector lets you integrate your on-camera flash into your studio system.

Power, variable continuously from 7 to 1,000W/s, can be mimicked by the 300W proportional modeling lamp to preview your effects. Although Elinchrom provides one, you can swap the sync cord with a separately purchased 8-channel transceiver for wireless triggering from your camera. The head has one built-in to receive the signal. Flash modes allow you to address special situations. The Sequential Mode enables triggering up to 20 ELCs in bursts or in a continuous cycle. Delayed Mode offers a choice of first or second curtain syncing while Strobo Mode allows single frame stroboscopic action sequences. Finally, the auto-sensing multi-voltage power supply means that you can use the ELC Pro HD 1000 anywhere in the world.

    Wasn’t satisfied with the results I’d been getting out of the setup I’d spent the last year with, so I first upgraded to a 190cm indirect modifier- Which required a bowens to Elinchrom adapter- Which made things worse. The idea of the litemotiv indirect was to create as even a light as possible, but the tube was nearly fully concealed behind the stacked adapters. Enter the Elinchrom Pro HD. Without needing to stack adapters, the tube is properly exposed to the modifier. That’s also the time I noticed that the color had improved against the prior setup. I see, now, why professionals use brands like Elinchrom or Profoto. There’s a tangible difference in the quality of their images.

    Terrible deign and poor service

    Avenger E250 Pin with 5/8 diameter has stud depth of 12.5 mm that needs to be below the screw that locks it in place. Elinchrom 1000 ELC HD Pro has depth of 8.5 mm below the screw. So you can insert the pin but cannot get to the narrower collar to lock the light in place. On some stands the pin will get to the collar but locking is very very shaky, with 15-20 deg play. I have 9 Elinchrom lights total. All fit the stand perfect except this model. They fit perfect and have no play. This flash works great but stand adapter is terrible. Gaffer tape could hold better. I did send email to the Elinchrom support with my comments last week. They never replied. B & H are top class. I am sure they will be happy to return it if I wished. Other models of Elinchrom are good. But this one works like a space shuttle built by children for a school project.
