Samyang 8mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

The Sony E mount Samyang 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye II Lens is a prime fisheye lens specifically designed for APS-C sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm and full 180° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for creative applications as well as interior and architectural subjects. Its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, the lens' design features a built-in lens hood and a UMC coating has been applied to the lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

    Samyang 8mm f/2.8 reviews

8mm f/2.8 Fisheye II Lens for Sony E Mount is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome fisheye! I was watching this fisheye for a long time and finally took the plunge. It's definitely a niche lens, but you probably already know that if you want one. It's very well made, nice heavy feel, but compact and fits well on e mount cameras. Focus throw is smooth and fluid, the aperature clicks but doesn't feel cheap. I was hoping that I could get a circular fisheye when mounted on a full frame A7 series camera in APS-C mode, but no luck, it becomes kind of a distorted curved rectangle thing. Oh well. I'm very impressed with this thing, and it's 30 bucks cheaper for some reason than its Rokinon equivelant. A very fun lens to use, takes some practice, but you can get some great sharp images. Worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp wide and awesome. Had the rokinon 8mm f3.5 lens and it wasnt nearly as sharp as i had hoped, this 8mm f2.8 lens is what id hoped for. Found that at f5.6 to f8 focused between a meter and infinity its sharp close and far. very nice depth and very nice color as well, have found very little need to tweak images ive taken with this lens and my Sony A6300. It is manual focus and aperture, but with such a wide latitude of focus you will rarely miss AF.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended I used the lens for ultra wide artistic shots. Perfect with my a6300. Very cheap, but the built quality is very high. However, it is heavier than I expected. Images are really sharp if you don't forget to focus manually. I love the small size and the lens hood is perfect. Even though I already own a 10-18 f4, I will not let go of this beautiful lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, Fast, Sharp and Lightweight First in Spanish then I try to translate. I buy this lens to go on a vacation trip with my Sony NEX-5T recently, for this price it's an excellent lens. It's very compact and fast, could stay forever on the camera if the barrel effect of a Fisheye don't bother you. I could compare it with the Rokinon Cine 14mm T3.1, besides the photo quality differences, the physic size difference it's huge, and a full open it was very good the Samyang 8mm 2.8 over the Rokinon. Some reviewers complain on the Focus Ring, and it's true, it's hard to move it. But in wide shoots there's no need to move the focus control every time. I was amazed by long exposure photos with this lens, it's easy to take and get Sharp results, even wide open.
