Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 overview

  • 1Description

The Sony E mount Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC Lens is a prime wide-angle lens designed for both full-frame and APS-C sized sensors; when used with an APS-C sensor the 35mm-equivalent focal length is 36mm. As a standard wide-angle focal length, this lens is well-suited to working in a variety of situations ranging from landscape to street photography. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions and for greater control over selective focus and shallow depth of field effects.

Two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations in order to produce sharper images. A UMC coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery. Additionally, the lens' manual focus design incorporates an inner-focusing mechanism to maintain the overall lens length when changing focus.

Wide-angle prime lens is well-suited to use in a broad variety of shooting situations.
Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and provides greater control over focus placement for shallow depth of field applications.
Four extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements reduce chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and clarity.
UMC coating improves light transmission and suppresses lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich, color-neutral images.
Inner-focusing mechanism maintains overall lens length while focusing and helps to prevent dust from entering the lens barrel.
Eight rounded aperture blades help to produce an aesthetic out-of-focus quality to benefit selective focus and shallow depth of field imagery.

    Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 reviews

24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E Mount is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Try your luck.... After returning two of these because one side of the image was not in focus (or even close) the third one produced decent results. I am using it exclusively for landscape astrophotography but the defect noted was clearly noticeable in daylight shots too. Test thoroughly on receipt and be prepared to exchange, just as multiple reviews have noted, it's true Samyang has very poor QC. Good luck

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lenses for the price Since buying my Sony A7II, I've been looking for a landscape lenses that wouldn't break the bank, I also wanted a fast lenses for astrophotography. The Rokinon 24mm 1.4 has been a great buy, it's a bit heavy but I mostly use it on a tripod. It's very sharp and a great quality build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lens for multiple purpose I received a tack sharp copy that performs great in many situations. I have used it for astrophotography, for beautiful, low-noise rendition of the Milky Way. This lens is also perfect for event/party photography, the wide angle is a must for group photos, and you get some nice bokeh on top. Also when light levels are low, either indoors or at night, the 1.4 aperture combined with the wide angle allow you to continue taking natural-looking pictures without flash. Manual focus is super smooth. It works great for landscape photography as well, if you don't mind the bulk of the lens; the sharpness and the good flare-resistant coatings are worth it. The lens hood and cap make it a bit clunky, but that's what you get with a bulbous front element.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more doubts I was not 100% sure this lens would do the job needed to be done. I was very wrong. Very nice lens indeed. I use it on my a7s for astrophotography. Its perfect. Sits very well on the a7s and i don't class it as heavy at all as the lightness of my a7s makes the package feel comfortable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Third one was acceptable... I am by no means a nit picker, but when one whole side of an image is obviously out of focus, that to me is unacceptable. Ended up with a pretty good one but what a pain

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rokinon has reached a new low in QC Straight out of the box, this lens was clearly defective. The focus ring was completely jammed, rendering a manual-focus only lens completely useless. What does this tell me? Rokinon has absolutely no quality control. It's not only decentering issues with this lens--they literally don't even turn the focus ring to make sure it moves!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from First one, no good Nighttime star/landscape photography. Fast lens, low coma and other aberrations Did not focus evenly across image, left side was out of focus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Manual Focus is hard! Product is great - exactly what it is designed to do. Gives you a wide angle with a fast aperture for a great price.
