DJI H3-3D overview

  • 1Description

The Zenmuse H3-3D 3-Axis Gimbal for GoPro HERO3/3+ from DJI is a camera stabilization device that is exclusively for the DJI Phantom 2 Quadcopter. It is driven by a 3-axis brushless gimbal that not only supports tilting and canting, like the previous H3-2D model, but also panning as well. Not only will it keep your aerial video's horizon level and isolated from vibration, the gimbal can also be used to remotely operate there camera, allowing you to adjust the camera angle with ±0.08° accuracy in flight.

Electronically, the gimbal is designed to operate plug and play with the Phantom 2; however you may or may not require additional mounting hardware depending on which version of Phantom 2 you have. The first version of the Phantom 2 (V.1) has a small, rectangular opening on the bottom of the airframe that was optimized for the H3-2D gimbal, and is too small for the H3-3D. Conversely, the Phantom 2 V.2 has a larger round opening.

If your aircraft is identified at the V.1 you will need part CP.PT.000107, available separately, which includes the mounting adapter and extended landing gear required. If you are using the later Phantom 2 (V.2 or later), then no additional mounting hardware is required, and the original landing gear can still be used.

Note: This system is balanced for the naked, unmodified GoPro HERO3 and HERO3+ action cameras only. Camera add-ons such as filters or housings will throw off the balance and could damage the gimbal. Additional, when used with the HERO4 it may not perform optimally.

    DJI H3-3D reviews

    Zenmuse H3-3D 3-Axis Gimbal for GoPro HERO3/3+ (Phantom 2) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 110.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved by B&H! In the middle of an important aerial shoot I had a battery failure on my Phantom2 and the resulting crash disabled my Zenmuse H3-3D, permanently. I got right on the phone to my usual supplier but they were out of stock and not expecting more inventory from China until two weeks later. Plan B didn't work, either, they were out of stock also. I called back my original long-time supplier and they directed me to B&H. Sure enough B&H had one in stock and shipped it priority, for free, without the usual tax bill to boot! Saved the day and impressed both me and my client. I know where I'll turn first next time. Thanks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Video is great but it's super sensitive Lots of great things about this product but I'll just concentrate on the stuff that's not: Humidity or any moisture will immediately stop it in its tracks. The exposed electronics will short out. I've had to send mine back for a replacement. Did not come with a plastic piece to keep it from shaking around while handling Phantom or traveling. One of the safety rods is designed dumb, it gets in the way of the Gimbal. Just remove it. Removing or placing a GoPro on the Gimbal is a little hassle due to the need of the Alan Wrench. When the Quad is off, the Gimbal drops the GoPro to the ground. Not a biggie, just be careful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Functional but Delicate I actually purchased this as a replacement for the one I bought with my Phantom II. As a new flyer, it may take you a few landings before you feel like you have control of your Phantom. I had some landings that were less than under control (some call these Crashes). What I didn't expect was the landing skids are a little short and with a small amount of compression on a hard landing, they allow the gimbal to impact the ground. Unfortunately, the gimbal is more delicate than I would have expected and several parts bent. Service from DJI is so poor that it's basically nonexistent so now I own this one and the original it replaces..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Deficiencies in Zenmuse Overall the Zenmuse H3-3D is very efficient and stable. The design leaves something to be desired. If you place the Hero 3 or 4 on the Gimbal, it places the lens to the far right (looking at the drone). This places it very close to the legs of the Phantom 2. If you use the Hero flip function and turn the camera upside down, the cable to connect the Hero to the drone does not reach to the far side. Yes, you can scramble about and get a larger cable. But, you have the axis in the way. Come on guys, this should be ready to go. Perhaps Hero can make the lens optional on the right or left.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beyond Amazing I have waited for the 3 axis gimbal for a long time. When I first took my Phantom 2 into the sky I flew around the neighborhood testing how the video would look. It was so impressive at one point I thought it was a still photo. If you want something that will produce a wonderful video or photos, this is the combination you have been looking for. I added the iOSD and FPV so I can actually watch what the camera is seeing. You wont be disappointed and B&H in my opinion is the company that you should consider buying from. They are there after the purchase and have one of the best customer support groups I have encountered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Steady, a must for filming This gimbal keeps your Phantom 2 shots incredibly smooth. Setting it up on the Phantom 2 is a little bit complicated, but can be done in about 20 minutes. The gimbal allows you to tilt the camera using the lever on the back of the Phantom controller which is a must. The gimbal also charges your GoPro while you fly the Phantom, which is a huge plus because as we all know the gopro battery life is not the best. My only complain is that if the gopro freezes which they are also known to do, you have to use the special tool to unscrew the bar that holds it in place to take the battery out. But overall I would not recommend the phantom without this gimbal, it is amazing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fragile connector cable...be aware! This is the version 2 of the H3-3D gimble which for some reason (apparently several controversial versions of the rational for this change) modified the Go-Pro connector from an easy plug-in on the back of the camera to a fragile ribbon-cable connector which plugs into the mini-USB port on exposed side of the Go-Pro. This ribbon cable is very easy to break (crack) and very hard to replace/replace. Be prepared to replace it. One spare is supplied with this gimbal kit. The mini-USB connector has to be unplugged to either insert or remove the microSD memory card.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent video stabilization Mostly used to take videos outside, for our activities and premises, for promotional purposes. This stabilizer is fantastic; videos are rock steady, even in high wind conditions. The only minus is the way the unit attaches to the bottom of the Phantom 2; the mount uses two plates linked together with rubber shock absorbers (which do a great job). Unfortunately these 2 plates are secured with 2 pins that once attached are impossible to remove without breaking them. So if you want to fly your Phantom without the gimbal and camera (like when you learn how to fly it), there are no easy way to remove the components.
