Some have noted that the top riser is aluminum and barely takes the stress of a boom. Also noted is the short pin on top. Would this 12" Matthews extension solve one or both problems? Is it steel, and is the pin longer? Matthews Baby Stand Extension - 12"

These stands are great for light panels or fernel fixtures because they are so lite and easy to move around. I personally wouldn’t put anything on it that requires counterbalance. I think a standard c-stand is going to be way safer.

You could if you were very careful. If you are going to move it around I would use a stand with a larger footprint. I use this stand a lot but limit the weight to no more than 15 pounds.

Can I mount a tripod head on top of this?
Im sure it can be done with the right grip gear, but i wouldnt do it myself... no idea what you are trying to accomplish but i think a small camera stand would be the way to go, something heavier and with an arm to make handling the camera a lot easier. This is a great light and grip stand! Not a good camera stand.
