The Katana Gimbal Head from ProMediaGear is capable of supporting up to 50 lb of equipment and provides smooth movement and stable support for even the longest telephoto lenses. An Arca-Swiss type clamp mount enables the attachment of a compatible plate to the head. Separate locking and adjustment mechanisms allow friction adjustment without instability or parts coming apart. Camera and lens positions can be adjusted smoothly with one hand and a balanced position maintained without tightening.

The Katana is made of hard anodized, scratch-resistant 6061 aluminum alloy and CNC precision machined parts. Maintenance free, weather-sealed ball bearings enable the head's smooth movements and over-sized knobs can be removed and repositioned for more comfortable adjustments.

    ProMediaGear GK reviews

Katana Gimbal Head is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Katana Gimbal Head I use this with a combination of a D810 with a 120-300mm mounted to a tripod, and it just works wonderfully. Build quality is excellent. It handles the weight with ease. The D801 weighs in at 2.2 lb. and the lens is 7.50 lb that's 9.70 lbs. Under this load the movements are still precise smooth and silky, and when u lock one of the knobs it stays. Would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth and sturdy I use this with my Nikon 200-500 f/5.6 lens and 70-200 f/2.8 as well. It operates perfectly, with what must be very good bearings. Once balanced, the lens can be pointed in any direction and does not move, even without tightening down the lock knobs at all. Please note that, especially with a lens that extends when it zooms, the balance point will vary with the zoom length. However, it is so smooth and light to move that even when not precisely balanced, it is easy to hold in one place and move as necessary. The design makes it very rigid as well. Note that my copy is flat, satin black anodized, not shiny as it appears in the picture. I like it better that way. Mine also has a bubble level, which is helpful but not really necessary. I thought about reversing the position of one of the knobs, but found that the hardware (a screw in the knob and a cap screw on the opposite side) is very difficult to remove. Tom at Pro Media Gear said it is fastened with Loctite, so it will need plenty of force to remove. He offered to do it for free if I would ship the part to him. However, I decided to live with it as is, since it is not really that inconvenient. Overall, I'm very happy with this gimbal head. I didn't get the Wimberley because it looks too plain and boring to me (silly, I know), and I didn't get the Custom Brackets gimbal head because I have a CB pan & tilt head that moves when I tighten down the pan bearing, and I didn't want to take a chance that something similar might happen with the gimbal head. This Katana head, though more expensive, has been flawless in all respects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Gimbal I hesitated ordering this gimbal head because of the price. But you usually get what you pay for, and it turns out that this purchase was an outstanding example of that fact. The head is extremely well made with attention to quality in every regard. During a recent shoot, a heavy 300 mm f2.8 lens attached to a Nikon D5 balanced effortlessly. It almost seemed superfluous to lock down the lens, since I was using a wireless remote to trigger the shutter, and the lens and camera seemed as solid as could be. Having struggled with long unbalanced setups on conventional heavy ball heads for the past 30 years, using this gimbal head was a dream. I'll never use my big glass without it from this point on. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Gimbal head I've every used A friend was using this head and I seen how balanced and smooth it was. I though I was using a good gimble but after using trying my friends Pro Media Gimble I was no longer happy using mine. The balance, smoothness and quality was unbelievable. It is heavy duty. It does add a couple inches of height to your tripod. I ordered one the day I got back. Well worth the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as it gets I needed to upgrade the gimbal for my 300 800 Sigmonster. Nylon bushings could not handle the load. After research, my lovely wife bought this for me. This is so solid. The ball bearings spin like in a vacuum. This Katana is so much better bang for the buck than anything I read. Reviews were rave. Now I know why. If you need a sturdy, marvelously milled, smooth as silk gimbal, for your expensive telephoto lens, THIS IS THE GIMBAL FOR YOU. Other names may be better known. NONE ARE BETTER MADE!
