    LensCoat LLB4XDC reviews

Xpandable 4X Long Lens Bag (Digital Camo) is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs work. I bought this to use with my Sigma 300-800mm lens. I also bought the strap kit to made it a back pack. The feature to make to case taller or shorter was a good idea, but it seems this makes the cases corners a little weak and this makes the case a little flimsy. Also the case has nothing inside to keep the lens from flopping around when you are walking with it on your back. Maybe if there was some kind of support to go around the lens inside the case to keep the lens from moving around then I would have gave it a better score. Also the case is a little to bulky W/D wise. Other then those problems I found the case is made well. I did return the case for a refund and will try a different one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag for Long Lens Shooters This bag is well made and well designed. In the closed (smallest position) I can place my Canon 1DX Mark ll attached to my Canon 200-400MM with the lens hood in the inverted position for traveling. At 21.5 X10 X10's, it meets all international carry on limits. Place a tripod or Mono pod in the tripod holder and strap it on and you are good to go. I was also able to fit my Wimberly Gimbal Head in the bottom of the bag. I inserted a cardboard layer over the Wimberly head and the lens sits on top of that. In the open position, I can leave my lens on the camera body with the lens hood in the ready to shoot position. I also added the optional backpack straps and they work perfectly making this an easy bag to travel with at the airport or in the field.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lacks structure & padding, very flimsy. Try Kinesis L622. I purchased this bag from the manufacturer and used it for the past 4 months or so with my 800mm and D4s. I'm not very satisfied with this bag and I plan on purchasing the Kinesis L622 PolyCore Long Lens Case 600 instead after using the LensCoat. I have not used the Kinesis, but it looks better padded and like it has more structure. The biggest issue(s) I have with this LensCoat bage are:1) there is almost no structure. If you lay it on a surface that isn't absolutely level it will actually fold over and lose it's square structure. It really is that flimsy. When walking and this is on your back it sounds and feels like the lens is jostling around like crazy. The only thing that is keeping it from moving around is a small square pad that fits around the lens, but it doesn't velcro into anything on the case to secure it so it easily shifts and collapses without providing proper support and when that happens your DSLR starts smacking the sides of the bag. I've thought about trying to add structure to this bag with TrekPak or some other padding and even tent supports, but why? The second major flaw is;2) There is almost no padding to provide any substantial protection. The thickness around the bag is absolutely too thin. For bottom support they give you a fabric wrapped plastic insert that drops to the bottom that bends very easily and with a lens hood in the shooting position, when you pick up the bag to put it around your shoulder it flexes to a curve. Likewise, if you put the case on it's side, like in your car, the weight of the contents bend the bag out of square to an alarming degree and with only a thin layer of frabric it's not cool. One of the selling points of the bag is that it folds flat for travel, and while this is correct it comes with the drawback of being extrmely flimsy. With the bag in its longest expandable state, you put the included 4 additional plastic inserts in (so the long side is horizontal) which in my case buckled down the top portion of the case. This is a design flaw as more support would have been provided if the long side of the plastic inserts were oriented vertical to counteract gravity pulling down. A thicker plastic would have also been useful. Another small frustration is:3) The shoulder straps are not included and are an additional cost that brings this bag up to $! That said, the shoulder straps are nice and definitely the best working piece of this bag. I will add that the instructions leave a bit to desire once you make it to Step 3. Given the $ price tag ($ with the shoulder straps), this bag is overpriced and under-engineered. I've included a few iPhone photos of the issues with this bag I've described here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bag I recently purchased the LensCoat 4Xpandable Long Lens Bag for my Canon 600 IS II. I typically have the 1.4 or 2x mounted to it at all time and my 1dx. I love the way it expands to fit my needs. When I'm out in the field I like to have the lens and camera ready to shoot and I have not seen any other bag that can do accommodate this. I like that I can fold the bag almost flat and put in my suitcase if needed or I can use it as a carry on (although folded to its shortest height.) It is well made, sturdy and I can tell it will be with me a long time. The case comes with folding instructions, a removable shoulder strap (which is great for securing to the seat in a car), 2 securing straps (to attach a tripod), a lens collar insert so the lens doesn't move around in the case, and a micro fiber cloth. I also purchased the Harness and waist belt.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a bad bag, but did not fulfill my need Don't get me wrong, this bag is probably perfect if you want to haul your long lens over your shoulders. I needed a sturdy lens case to fit a Nikon 300mm and/or 500mm with the lens hoods attached in shooting mode while I am shooting from my kayak. The intention was to put this lens bag in a dry bag and attach to the front decking on my kayak and also rest the end of the lens on top of that bag assembly while shooting to act as support. I've been using this approach for a while with a smaller bag for the 300mm. The only problem with this bag was that the Xpandable lens case is not sturdy when the lens is removed. The sides folded over and the bag was a bit flimsy compared to other lens cases. other than that, it seems well built and has decent internal padding to protect your investment. I ended up making my own for my kayak photography needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed and versatile for wildlife photographers As I shoot wildlife across the globe, I need a bag that allows me to both protect my gear from bumps and bruises (atv, zodiacs, sleds, snow coaches, hikes through rain forest and more) and has my camera and lens (with lens hood attached) instantly ready to go. I have two of these and they are perfect. I also have the optional shoulder straps which makes hiking with them a snap. Well conceived

Rated 3 out of 5 by from LensCoat Xpandable 4X Long Lens Bag I am using this lens bag in a cart to carry a Canon 600 F4 lens with the lens hood in shooting position and an attached SLR camera. You can even use a 2x converter is you don't mind the top of the bag bulging out a little. The other unique thing about this bag is it folds up flat. This is the only bag B & H sells where I can carry the camera/lens hood in the shooting position so it is a unusual bag. This is the good part. Now for the bad part: This bag will not provide superb protection. It is half as thick as my Lowepro and Lightware bags and not nearly as stiff. I would never consider using it with the optional back pack harness. My back would never forgive me.If your looking for a bag to carry your big lens in the shooting position, this is your only option, but you are giving up some of the protection other bags give you.I will use this in an upright cart in places with crshed gravel and paved trails to save my back. I know the bag is made in the USA, but at $ it seems a little expensive for what you are getting

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Most convenient bag I've found This is the only bag I could find that holds my 600 f4 with the lens hood and body attached. Not the most padded bag available but fits my purposes. Would be nice/5 stars if the straps to make it a backpack were included.
