Lowepro Lens Trekker 600 III Reviews

Heavy Duty Case Giving Reasonable Protection

This is a well built case but you better be in good shape and strong when you place your camera and large telephoto lens into it. If there were two improvements I would recommend, I would engineer the case to have an adjustable padded brace that supports the area between the camera body and the lens. The padded Velcro system is a bit fiddly and has to be pulled off and reattached every time you remove your camera. A bit of a hassle and I worry that the Velcro over time will end up coming apart and wearing out the fabric wall of the interior. The top has a built in grab handle, but I would incorporate a heavy duty quick release since unzipping the opening is fiddly again when the handle impeding the opening. I ordered two 1 inch quick release buckles and will install those when they arrive. Then I can simply unbuckle, unzip and remove camera then buckle it back up. Lowepro if your listening, please consider this input. Thanks!

This is a excellent pack for a Canon 600 prime lens well balanced and easy to load without help.

The pack I've been looking for!

I've been looking for a pack to carry my 600 f/4 with TC and camera attached for a while. I've tried many others but feel this Lowepro works the best for me! The lens feels completely secure when hiking and doesn't move around at all. I also strap my Gitzo monopod w/ Wimberley gimbal head and the whole setup weighs 22lbs (including water). Very easy for long hikes! For size reference, I'm loading a Sony 600mm f/4 + 1.4x TC + Sony a9ii with battery grip. When stored in the pack I keep the lens hood reversed without the hood cover so it's still very fast to pull out and fire off some shots! When the lens is in the pack I have approx. 3-4 from the camera to the top of the pack.

I recently purchased this bag for a backcountry hike into Denali National Park. It was perfect for my tamron 150-600mmm lens attached to my camera body as well as my carbon fiber tripod and gimbel head and my stool. There was room for necessary accessories, my rain gear and trail food. The best part was the adjustable straps and load stabilization. I wish it held a few lenses inside but my waterproof lens cases clip on just fine for my macro lenses. I hike a lot and this will be a great addition to my gear.

Does fit Nikon 800mm f/5.6 MF plus body

This is a really nice supertelephoto lens pack. It's got great cushioning at the bottom that snugly surrounds and protects the front and sides of the main front section of this beast of a lens. It also has a good adjustable collar pad that goes around the lens further back near where the body mounts to it. And if you don't have the padded top shelf installed, it will just fit the Nikon 800mm f/5.6 manual focus lens with a D750 body mounted to it. There is also room left over inside to put in some smallish lenses and other items. I've read complaints about the tripod carrying configuration, but I'm not sure what the problems are. The little "cup" that straps to the bottom on either side of the pack does hold only two of my tripod's feet, but that doesn't seem a problem at all; the four supplied adjustable straps done up tightly from top to bottom in conjunction with the tripod foot holder keep it attached very snugly and solidly to the side of the pack. I agree this pack is more ideal for the 600mm with a body attached, but am very happy with it for my purposes.

Well Built And I Knew It Was Going To Be Heavy

This is a beefy protective case for your gear, and especially suited to a long lens already mounted on a camera body. Works perfectly for 200-500 5.6 and 200-400 F4 on any body. It can accommodate a large tripod on the side, but I wish the tripod pocket was bigger to accommodate a RRS BH-55. Its size will not accommodate all the legs of my large wildlife tripod so I simply put one of the legs in the pouch and strap the rest of the tripod to the backpack. Big tripods with ball heads are best carried ball head down to keep the weight low and avoid pendulum swings of weight up high. This is a consideration that Lowepro should incorporate into future ball head/tripod pouches. Make it versatile so it can be expanded for big heads. All in all a good purchase.

With a 600f4 I carry a 1.4x, 2x, and extension tubes. and drop-in filters. Is the pocket large enough to hold these accessories?
Asked by: Michael
I carry a Canon 600mm f/4.0 II, Canon 5DSR, 1.4X & 2.0X teleconverters, an extension tube, a drop in polarizing filter and a dozen memory cards. The polarizing filter and memory cards fit in the small outside pocket and the teleconverters and extension tube fit inside the bag next to the 600mm. I put the teleconverters and extension tube in soft pouches so they don't bang around. This is the second bag I've had as I originally had the old version for a Canon 600mm f/4.0 FD mount lens. Great bag that cushions the big investment 600mm in the field.

The D7100 with a Sigma 150-600mm lens attached will snuggly fit into the Lowepro ProTactic BP 350 AW II Camera bag. This BP 350 is the right size for a carry on for the airlines.

question

I'm interested in this bag for carrying my 400 2.8 with/ without teleconverter. Would it be the appropriate bag for this combo? Also, does this bag have a handle on top for easy of carrying once off the shoulders?
Asked by: Thomas H.
It is long enough to carry the 400 f/2.8 with a full size DSLR, battery grip and a 2X teleconverter attached. Yes it does have a handle on top which is convenient for moving the bag by hand. Since the bag is quite tall, the bag would drag on the ground unless you bend your elbow.
