Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine DS Overview

By B&H Photo's

Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens the Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens answers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens comes in Micro Four Thirds Mount and features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share a common position with other Rokinon Cine DS lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens.

This 35mm lens produces a 33.4° angle-of-view when used on a camera with a four-thirds sized sensor and MFT mount. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, with a minimum focus distance of just under 12" from the lens. A removable petal-shaped lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box, the lens' threaded front accepts a 77mm filter ring.

Please note that some cameras may require that Shutter Lock be disengaged when using this lens.

Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting, and the lenses are color-matched to a standard eliminating the need to acquire an entire set of lenses at the same time.
Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings. Each lens in the Rokinon DS series shares common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.
"Declicked" aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.
A minimum focusing distance of 12" allows you to get up close to your subject.
A removable petal-type lens hood provides flare protection without a matte box.
The lens opens up to T1.5, providing the capability for low-light shooting or creating extremely shallow depth of field.

How much cinematic quality does this lens get? Like, Netflix show/film level quality? Or more?
Asked by: Christopher
Cinematic quality is subjective. When you say "Netflix level quality" you are actually referring to the talents of the DPs and not just the equipment or lenses used. Many factors indicate cinema level quality content like lighting, depth of field, framing, acting, sound and on screen production quality. I have the set of four Rokinon Cine primes and they make beautiful video images when you light and frame according to the effect you want.

Can I use this lens without the servo?

There is no servo included with this lens. You would be able to add a Motorized Follow Focus Unit to it or you can use it as is. It does not require the use of a servo controller.

Is 35mm focal length expressed in terms of MFT or full frame? I/o/w, on a GH5s, will this lens yield a 35mm field of view, or 70mm?
Asked by: Jeffrey
From the manufacturer's booklet that came with the lens: "35mm full frame image size." Angle of view, for 35 mm is 63.1. For APS-C it is 43.2, and for 4/3, angle of view is 33.4.
