This hood is compatible with lenses 50mm and longer on full-frame cameras, or 28mm and longer on cameras with APS-C sensors. The primary purpose of a lens hood is to shield the lens from unwanted stray light by extending and shading its end. Since the hood extends the front end of the lens, it provides the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
