    Sigma 150-600mm f/5.0-6.3 reviews

150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Canon EF is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 181.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic lens This is a fantastic lens for the money. When stopped down to f8 it is extremely sharp. It is much sharper than the Tamron 150-600mm (which I owned for a year and sold after buying this lens). I am extremely impressed with this lens. Image quality at 600mm at f8 is much better than it should be. I love the focal length locks. I love the OS. The ability to use the dock and custom set the OS, the focus speed and focus limiter is great. Can't recommend this lens highly enough. It is the best $$I have ever spent. Remember to buy the dock as well. I have C1 set to focus priority and to dynamic OS. Sigma has hit it out of the park with this lens. Buy it and you will not regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sports Lens I was using a 70-200 f/2.8 lens to capture sports and it just wasn't cutting it. I clearly needed more distance! After having read many reviews of this lens and competing lenses, I was sold that this was the one I needed. I've shot with it now at 5 different days of sports events and LOVE IT! I no longer have to be in someone's way to take the shot I want. I will warn you though, this lens is as heavy as a cannon. (no pun intended) You will want to use a monopod or tripod when shooting as this and the camera body together can make for big biceps! Big biceps and sore arms were not my goals so I used a monopod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for budget shooters, and good for probably everyone I enjoy taking bird and wildlife pictures. I own Canon DSLR's and I own a Sigma 150-500 OS DG lens. I was happy with the performance of that lens. I recently got a newer camera body and when I saw this lens I knew it would give me the extra reach I wanted. I bought it and I am very happy with the results. The attached photos were taken on a 20 degree day with 25 mph winds. I could barely stop shivering but the IS took care of that for me. It easily offers 1 1/2 to 2 stops better IS than the 150-500 I own. It's a great lens for people that like to take wildlife pictures but don't have the means to spend a couple of mortgage payments for a lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy I bought this lens mainly for stationary bird shots with my 70D. I did not buy the dock, but may in the future just for the custom functions. It took me a couple of days to find the sweet spot with the 70D, but after making micro focus adjustments to a +3, it is dead on. With my 6D, it required no focus adjustments. I plan to use on a tripod most of the time, but I am really impressed with the optical stabilization on this lens. Very quiet and locks on in a reasonable time frame. Not great in low light, but I knew that going in. Sharpness at 600mm and f6.3 is more than acceptable and is great at f8. I could not be more pleased. It also came with a very nice carry case. Great value and dealing with B&H a pleasure as usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great lens. So glad I bought it. Having never owned anything longer than a 70-200 I was a little nervous going to shoot handheld with such a long lens. Walked around the park today and got some amazing pictures handheld at 600mm on my 7d mark ii. The bokeh is very different on this lens, almost like a wet paint instead of circles so pretty. With shots like this hand held, I can't wait to use my Manfrotto monopod or tripod. The lens is very well built if you are thinking that the build quality may not be so good since the Sport version is built like a tank, don't worry it is very solid, feels just like my Art lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent addition to add to all my Canon L Lenses I mostly purchased this for wildlife, birds, animals, hopefully a big bear. I have done very well handheld, even from a floating Kayak on the Delaware. I would have been better to be stationary with a tripod but when a Bald Eagle soars over your head with a fish in its talons, you shoot. Keep it f/8 or more, bump the ISO up for good shutter speed. Sharpness is great. I also was able to photography yacht races real up close even though they were a very far distance. One thing I did find, leaving a cold hotel room and venturing into the hot humid air, you can get condensation in the lens that takes time to clear. Build quality is excellent and the lens is sharp. Sure its a bit heavy but it adds a important capability that I did not have before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprising IQ An excellent value in terms of image quality if used with care. I currently use this on a Sony a6000 (which makes the effective focal length about 225mm-900mm.) I'm waiting on the new Sigma MC11 adapter to see how well the great auto focus capabilities of this camera (and the other sony mirrorless bodies) will work with an adapted lens. My normal practice with this type of lens is to use focus magnification for critical work so I am curious to see how well it will perform on the Sony alpha series cameras once I have useable auto focus for moving subjects but until then, the image quality (sharpness color and contrast) is higher even wide open than most other lenses of this type that I have ever used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sharpness I must say I am very impressed with the great sharpness of this lens. I was looking to upgrade from my dated Canon 100-400mm lens to either the new Canon 100-400, Sigma 150-600 sport or Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. After looking at reviews, weight of lenses and overall quality I decided with going with the Sigma Contemporary and what a good choice it was. Sharpness and clarity is almost as good as my Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II. Yes that lens is better but it is also 12 times the price. The Sigma lens beats my Canon 600mm in portability hands down. This is a perfect lens to hike around and hand hold shots at 600mm with ease. Compared to the new Canon EF 100-400mm, the image stabilizer is not as good as Canon's and focusing not as fast but for the price this lens performs outstanding. I also want to point out that this is my first non Canon lens and compared to my L lenses, the build quality on the Sigma is top notch. If you are looking for a portable lens, 600mm reach and real sharp images, this is the lens to purchase. Comes with a nice lens case too. I highly recommend.
