Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporar... Overview

By B&H Photo's

Offering an impressively versatile range with a portable form factor, the Canon EF-mount 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM from Sigma is a Contemporary-series telephoto zoom characterized by its sophisticated optics and flexible handling. One FLD element and three SLD elements are used to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and a Super Multi-Coating also helps to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

Balancing the optical design, this lens also features a Hyper Sonic Motor, which provides especially fast and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override. An Optical Stabilizer also works to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Additionally, a removable, rotating tripod collar is included to suit working atop a tripod or monopod.

As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.
Telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 240-960mm equivalent focal length range.
One F Low Dispersion (FLD) and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with a rear focus system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.
Optical Stabilizer system minimizes the appearance of camera shake to benefit making sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Dust- and splash-resistant design suits this lens's use in inclement weather conditions and a water- and oil-repellent coating has also been applied to the front element to aid in cleaning.
Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.
Zoom lock switch can be activated at any focal length to prevent accidental and unwanted zoom adjustment.
Compatible with optional Sigma TC-1401 1.4x and TC-2001 2x teleconverters.
A removable, rotating tripod collar offers well-balanced support for photographing atop a tripod or monopod with either vertical or horizontal shooting orientations.
This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Why F/6.3 long end , Change to f/ 5.6 a 600 mm

My consolation is too small f stop f /6.3 @ 600 mm . Nikon 200-500 f / 5.6 about same price even sharper then tamron or sigma lens only few hundred dollars saving to get 3 rd party lens . Nikon are almost 1 stop faster shooting Nikon can 1/500 , sigma lower 1/250 are same picture out door shooting you need fast er shutter speed make quality sharp photo . I would not buy or recommend slow sigma or tamron lens . canon's 100-400 mm l lens are ultra sharp lens with APS-c body camera become 640 mm lens . better choice for wildlife photography . Best choice is 300 mm f/2.8 + 2x teller converter using = 600 mm f/5.6 Lens . Try Nikon 300 mm are super sharp . In expensive lens . I recommend to Nikon 300 mm f2.8 lens . Good Luck ! Take nice pictures at fields .

Still getting used to it, that's why only a 4. But will probably deserve a 5 once I am more used to it and can use it a little faster.

I will be using this lens mostly for birds. Last week I did a few photos of spring flowers and really like the bokeh! Another day I shot a series of images of a Great Blue Heron and every feather is sharply in focus. I think I will enjoy this lens for many years! The weight will take some practice, but I expected that. Friends already use this lens, so I have no doubt that I will get a lot of use and fun out of it.

I am an amature photographer and needed a little more reach for wildlife. This was a good choice for me without spending too much money. The B & H chat staff helped to ensure that this was a fit for two of my canon camera's. It was very helpful as usual. I would recommend ordering the cross strap as well especially if you walk with your equipment. This lens is a bit heavy for me but I am an older short female. Either way, I love the results so far and still practicing with it.

So far I've just tried this out in the back yard and it works great. I use with my Canon 90D and have not had an problems with focus or anything else. I bought it for a camping trip we're going to make o Yellowstone and then on to Estes Park CO. I also bought the USB hub but really haven't needed it, its work great right out oh the box. Thanks to BandH as always, had in two days and that's free shipping!

This lens is a beast, the stabilization for hand held is a dream. Getting pretty crisp photos all the way out at 600mm. B and H sale made it a no briainerand I got it internationally shipped faster than any canadian company could get it to me and with insurance and taxes it was still cheaper.

I could not afford the Canon version of this lens. More than 3 times the cost. So I gave this lens a shot. It came in time for my Grand daughter soccer game. After a few blunders not the lens fault, i got use to it. WOW. The pictures were fantastic. I use it on a Canon R6. Could not be more pleased.
