    Sigma TC-1401 reviews

TC-1401 1.4x Teleconverter for Canon EF is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Will not autofocus I am an avid bird photographer, taking photos in flight, fishing etc. I have the Sigma 150-600 MM Sport lens with the latest firmware updates. When I received the Sigma TC-1401 1.4x I immediately set up a tripod in my backyard to do some test photos on a stationary object. Out of several attempts I achieved auto focus one time. The lens constantly searched and searched to try and focus without success. I returned the extender that afternoon. My recommendation is that if you can use manual focus with the extender you will be satisfied with the results. If you depend on auto focus you will not be satisfied with this extender.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Autofocus worked past f/8, but it was never really in focus I was surprised to discover that auto focus engaged past f/8, even at f/13 it was still focusing, but none of my shots were ever really truly in focus with auto focus. I was using it with an EOS 7DMKii. I was able to get sharper pictures with better focus when I was in manual focus on my Sigma 150-600 contemporary lens, but that sort of defeated the purpose of getting this device. Sometimes it would hunt for focus lock and other times it would lock on, but even when it would lock focus, the shots were never truly in focus. It's a shame really, I truly wanted this bit of kit to work well, but in the end it didn't function anywhere near my expectations so I returned it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be careful to buy this teleconverter updated comments: The bare 150-600mm lens alone is good but the combo of the lens and the teleconvereter has AF focal problem. Even so I did the maximum AF microadjustment both at the lens and my Canon 5D4, there still is serious back focus problem at 840mm focal length and long distance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Will it work with Canon lenses? There was a question about whether it would work with Canon brand lenses. I do not know. I bought it as a companion piece for my Sigma 150 to 600mm zoom, which has proved to be intermittent in providing communication between the camera and the lens. I found it unreliable the first time I used it (at the Airventure airshow), so I abandoned it on that shoot. I have used it since to shoot the moon during the eclipse and it again worked some of the time only. I have not yet tried it on the Canon lenses. I will try cleaning the contacts next time I try to use it. My opinion is that a Canon adapter will work as well (or better) than the Sigma, but haven't tried it yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tested and works we.. Maintains all features when used with a Canon 5D and the Tamron 150-600 telephoto lens. Good optics.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fairly Good Teleconverter I use this TC-1401 with a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary zoom lens on a Canon 7D Mark II to be able to get closer shots of wildlife, especially birds. It works fairly well and does not result in too much degradation in image quality. Auto focusing works okay in good lighting, not so good otherwise. In poor lighting, focus hunting forced me to miss some shots, but that was to be expected.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waist of money Another peice of glass that will make your camera struggle to focus, and when it does you will get a soft image , used on Canon 7Dii, Sigma 150-600mm contemporary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TC-1401 is sharp I bought a sigma 150-600mm s lens and now a TC-1401 1.4x teleconverter for Canon EF. I connected this combination to my 60D that gets sharp picture with MF but the AF does not work at all. It looks like I have to buy a 7D2 for the AF. I tried connecting the TC-1401 to my old Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens and then to the 60D, the AF works between 100-200mm focus distance at good contrast objects and images are sharp. At the 300mm focus distance the camera is hunting and hunting again for several times to get focus, once focused the images are sharp.
