Sigma TC-2001 overview

  • 1Description

Optimized for Canon EF-mount lenses in the Global Vision line, the TC-2001 2x Teleconverter from Sigma will offer an increase in focal length of 2 times for select Global Vision lenses. This model offers full communication between the lens and camera and will allows autofocus to operate at up to f/8. The teleconverter also features two Special Low Dispersion elements for reducing the appearance of chromatic aberrations and maintaining quality. Additionally, for protection, the TC-2001 is both dust and splashproof. When attached, the 2x conversion results in a light loss of approximately two stops. Sigma TC-2001 reviews

TC-2001 2x Teleconverter for Canon EF is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good I'm only rating this as 4 stars for now as I've only been able to use it a couple times. Once for photographing birds, mostly stationary. The other test was this weekend while at a track meet. I used this extender to add reach while photographing the hammer throw and javelin events. The extender performed well, I'm using it with the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 sport lens. I'd have to do more testing but so far I'm seeing an acceptable amount of sharpness still and in good light I didnt have an issue with the AF slowing down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I use this on the 150-600mm Contemporary lens which I mainly use on my EOS C100 video camera. Surprisingly enough(!) the C100 Dual Pixel autofocus works reasonably well even with the 2001 installed. That said, I feel that at the effective 1200mm focal length manual focus yields somewhat better results, since the depth of field is quite narrow and moving objects (after all it IS video!!!) can easily go in and out of focus and cause a lot of hunting which also consumes a lot of battery power. But all things considered it's a good addition to a nice lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for long range Used this to take pictures of the eclipse. Worked great. We can see the craters on the moon.Used this with the Sigma 150-600 sport lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutley Love this product I use the teleconverter with a sigma 600mm lens for taking photo's of wildlife. I love the fact that you can take pictures of objects that are not visible to the naked eye until you see it in the lens and for wildlife that is so far away, you can capture anything they are doing at the moment. There is nothing that I can say bad or indifferent to it. I just LOVE IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than I expected! As a rule, I have never found 2X tele extenders to meet my expectations with regard to resolution. I am happy to report that this one surprised me. I use it both on my Canon 6D and EOS 5M along with my Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. While this lens will not auto-focus on the 6D, it will do so on the EOS M5, it being a mirrorless camera. Consequently, I most likely will be using it the majority of the time on the M5. I can unequivocally recommend this extender.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not too Sharp I purchased this to attach to the Sigma 150-600 Sports - mainly to take pictures of the Solar Eclipse. However, try as I may could not get good focus using it. I knew it can't be the lens because I shot the eclipse and totality without the teleconverter and my images are tack sharp. Was hoping it was sharper than it turns out to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doubles distance of lens I use the TC-2001 2x telconverter on a Sigma 150-600 Contmporary Art lens and a Canon Mark III. I use a tripod with a Gimbal mount and manual focus. Results are great, absolutely satisfied

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not worth the effort My wife is a bit of a perfectionist with regards to images and I was hoping by combining the Sigma sport 150-600 lens with an extender it would allow her to get pictures at even greater distances. The images were too fuzzy for her preference. The quality of the extender is actually good but it simply did not add enough over the lens itself to be worth even the reasonable price charged by Sigma for this extender. Not sure if it would be a benefit for other fixed lenses from Sigma. They do give a list of those that are compatible or compatible after firmware upgrade. Again, this just will not add much to the excellent quality images obtained with there Sport 150-600 lens. If the images are fuzzy at 600 with the native lens they will not be better with the extender which also requires manual focus which also limits its use in action wildlife photography (ex. take-off and landing of artic swans and snow geese). Also bought the 1.4 X extender which did allow autofocus in optimal light but she was not happy with that either though has not used it much. B&H performance was however excellent as I received goods quickly and efficiently. If you buy the Sigma telephoto 150-600 lens enjoy it for its native function as extender will not help it further.
