Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED Lens
Key Features
  • F-Mount Lens/FX Format
  • Aperture Range: f/1.8 to f/16
  • Two Aspherical Elements, Two ED Elements
  • Nano Crystal & Super Integrated Coatings
A smart ultra-wide, the AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED from Nikon blends a desirable broad field of view with a sleek form factor, a bright design, and a sophisticated optical layout. The fast f/1.8 maximum aperture excels in difficult lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field. The optical design incorporates both aspherical and extra-low dispersion element to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations for greater sharpness and clarity. Also, both Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have been applied to reduce flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Balancing the optical attributes, the lens is also characterized by a Silent Wave Motor that produces fast, smooth, and quiet autofocus capabilities, along with the ability to manually override focus at any time for more selective control.

I'm considering getting the 16-35f/4. I have the Nikon 24-70, but I'm wondering if the 20mm does much more than the 24mm focal distance. I'm just not sure what lens I should get?
Asked by: Rick
The Angle of View on 20mm is 94° vs 24mm is 84° and 16mm is 107° , if you need wide angle 16-35mm wold be a better choice

question

With this lens, if I shoot a photo with a tall building on the left side and the right side of the photo, will they lean inward like two Towers of Pisa? Im looking for a wide-angle lens to stop this kind of distortion.
Asked by: Ronald M.
This lens will cause a little distortion. Architecture photography usually relies on tilt-shift lenses to avoid such issues.

would this lens or theNikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens be better for landscape timelapses? What is the difference? Or is there another lens that would be better suited for the task? Thank you! DM
Asked by: Dave
I would recommend the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED Lens for todays cameras and time lapse use since it is fully electronic. The Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens is better for manual focus and aperture use situations.

question

Will this lens auto-focus with my D3100 camera body?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. Keep in mind that this is an FX lens. The 20mm field of view will be closer to a 35mm field of view because of the D3100 DX crop sensor). The downside for your setup is that you won't be getting a true ultra-wide image. The upside is that you will be getting the sweet spot of any FX lens; the center.

1) Can I buy in a few payments ? 2) I also need the polarizer.
Asked by: Moshe
I think I saw that B and H has financing. This is a great lens. I have one and it has great optics. Super sharp edge to edge and only shows very slight softening in the corners on my 47 megapixel camera. But what really wins my heart is that it has a really nice starburst which I use all the time in shots looking into the sun where the sun is partly blocked by a tree branch or something. Get a polarizer with a narrow profile so you can stack it with another narrow profile UV filter to keep the lens protected. The outer element comes close to the lens cap so it is easy to nick it taking the lens cap on and off. Both filters will need to be a narrow profile on this lense or you will get venetting.
