BH #LEMAS • MFR #10371

Key Features
  • 35mm Film Rangefinder
  • Fully Mechanical Operation
  • 0.72x Bright Line Viewfinder
  • Selectable Image Field Frame Lines
Focusing on the founding principles of photography, the Leica M-A (Typ 127) is a 35mm film rangefinder camera characterized by its simplicity and unobtrusiveness. As a completely mechanical camera, no battery is required for operation and the only exposure control offered is a choice of shutter speed, up to 1/1000 sec. A large, bright 0.72x-magnification viewfinder pairs with a precise rangefinder mechanism to enable comparative manual focusing control with M-mount lenses, along with parallax-corrected compositional framing. The body features silver-colored chromed brass top and bottom covers, as well as an all-metal body design, to offer both durability as well as an aesthetic, minimal appearance. Designed for intuitiveness and efficient operability, the precision afforded by the M-A serves to complement a straight-forward working method.

What’s the use of the iso dial at the back if there is no exposure reading from the camera?
Asked by: Arie
The the ISO indicator on the back of the Leica M-A (Typ 127) Rangefinder Camera (Silver) BH #LEMAS is just a reminder. So you set it according to the film you are using.

I have a Leica M-A 127 and have been shooting 400 speed film. NYC is a a dark city to photo with 400 speed film - Does Ilford still have 800 speed film any more or should i just open up the aperture to f4 or lower?
Asked by: David
If shooting black and white film in low light, the Ilford Delta 3200 Professional Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures), BH # ILD320036 would be the next possible option. https://bhpho.to/3oQDg6t

question

What's the difference between this and a M-4P?
Asked by: Anonymous
Neither this camera nor the M-4P has a meter. The M-4P was made 33 years ago in Canada, while the M-A is made today in Germany. A number of details on the M-A are borrowed from the M-3 instead of the M-4: - The rewind knob is knurled and lacks a crank lever. The M-4P has an angled knob with crank. - The advance lever is all metal as in the M3 - not articulated like the M4-P - The M-A doesn't have "LEICA" or "M4-P" (or anything else) engraved on the front - Many M4-P's have red "Leitz" dots on the front grip area. The M-A has none. - The black version of the M-A has no obvious brand markings anywhere on the camera. - The M-A has brass top

question

What flash unit is compatible with this camera? Preferably a low cost option of one exists.
Asked by: Joe
If you want real simple, yet effective flash, pick up a used Vivitar 283. They made them for over 30 years so there are plenty of them available on line in mint or near mint condition for very little. The 283 has an on flash output control that predated TTL, but still works pretty good.
