RODE VideoMic Go Overview

This B&H Kit includes the Rode VideoMic GO camera-mount shotgun microphone and an Auray custom furry windshield, providing a simple mic setup for quality indoor or outdoor audio recording using any camcorder or HDSLR camera that supplies plug-in power. The Auray windshield slips over the VideoMic GO to deliver effective wind noise reduction and minimal high-frequency loss without impeding the microphone's shockmount or cable run.

RODE VideoMic GO Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone

Longer than Rode's VideoMicro and with a narrower pickup pattern, the Rode VideoMic GO camera-mount shotgun microphone offers enhanced off-axis rejection for tighter directionality. Like the VideoMicro, it runs on plug-in power and has no controls or switches, making it well suited for mobile journalists, vloggers, and run-and-gun shooters in a hurry.

This compact and lightweight shotgun microphone features an integrated shockmount that mounts directly to your DSLR, mirrorless, or video camera and reduces noise from vibrations and camera handling. The windscreen design reduces wind noise, making it well suited for outdoor shoots. The detachable coiled 3.5mm TRS cable ensures easy hookup to your camera, and the dual-mono output means that no channel selection is necessary on your recording device.

Shotgun Mic with Directional Sound Pickup
Whereas most built-in camera microphones pick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a supercardioid polar pattern to focus on sound in front of it while attenuating sound from the sides and rear. Its active electronics and directional condenser element deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras and portable recorders.
Easy Hookup to Camera
A detachable coiled 3.5mm cable is supplied for fast hookup to your camera. The cable is wired in a dual-mono configuration, ensuring that the mic signal is sent identically to both input channels of your camera or portable recorder.
Runs on Plug-In Power
No batteries are required to operate the VideoMic GO. Just connect the microphone to your camera or recorder, enable plug-in power on the device, and forget about swapping or charging batteries.
Integrated Shockmount Inhibits Vibrations
Understanding that the rubber bands used in many shockmounts can snap and stretch, Rode chose to integrate a rugged Rycote Lyre suspension-style shockmount. This simplifies setup of the mic and inhibits the transfer of vibrations from the camera. Plus, the bottom of the shockmount features a camera shoe mount with a 3/8" thread, ensuring easy attachment to your camera or a boompole such as Rode's Micro Boompole (available separately).
Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise
The VideoMic GO has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, consider a furry windshield such as the Rode DeadCat GO (available separately).
Connectivity Options
Expand the microphone's device compatibility with Rode accessories such as the SC4, SC7, and VXLR+ (all available separately). With either the SC4 or SC7, you can connect the VideoMic GO directly to a smartphone or tablet equipped with a 3.5mm TRRS jack. The VXLR+ adapter is the ideal solution when you want to record the VideoMic GO to a camcorder or mixer that has XLR inputs.

Auray Custom Windbuster for Rode VideoMic GO

The Auray WSW Series Custom Windbuster provides dual-layered wind protection and is designed to substantially reduce unwanted broadband wind noise and vocal pops with minimal high-frequency loss.

This Custom Windbuster has been tailor-made to fit the VideoMic GO and is designed to be used over its existing foam windscreen. The simulated fur outer layer works in tandem with the acoustic cloth inner lining to protect the microphone element from air bursts without muffling the sound.

When used on the VideoMic GO, this windbuster is effective in minimizing wind noise and plosive sounds. It is most effective in light to moderate breeze conditions (4 to 17 mph) and users can generally expect a 30 to 40 dB reduction in wind noise with modest dampening of high frequencies. For most applications, the modest high-frequency dampening is a worthwhile exchange for the substantial wind noise reduction. In addition to dual-layered wind protection, the Windbuster helps prevent moisture and dirt from damaging your microphone.

The Custom Windbuster for Rode VideoMic GO shotgun microphone offers an extremely effective dual-layered solution for wind protection.

For my personal family films this mic is GREAT!

Great sound and easy to use, but clicking noise on camera

Super easy to use and when I hold it off camera, the sound quality really ups my game. I do get a clicking sound when it is mounted on camera and I saw that there were other users with this issue, too. I need to mess around with it more, but hopefully I can figure out what to do so I can use it hands-free on my camera (Nikon D500)

Not a useful kit for me

A boom/stand combo is much more useful for studio work and a 1-man op in my case. The Auray dead cat is near worthless as is doesn't fit this mic properly; it flunked my wind tests due to gaps at the back of the mic. The Rode boompole won't lock for me at intermediate positions, hence it has sat on the shelf since I got it. Even if I trusted this pole and it's twist-locks, I'll need to buy a 'fork' holder to restrain it. I adapted a reflector-stand into a boom and it works great as it's sturdy and I use the reflector clips to restrain cables.

Great product and I'd buy again

So far this is a great mic for my DSLR. I like the light weight and portability of it. It uses camera power, but for those who don't want to carry extra battery weight, this is perfect. I really produces clear vocal audio.

Film student tested!!

As a current video and film student I will use it for my both school and personal projects. I used this same mic while filming a documentary in the US Virgin Islands for a summer class and it worked great. This mic is very easy to use and sits perfectly on top of a DSLR camera. The combo price at B and H is a great deal.

Wish I knew the issues

I have a hiss and tin sound even when turning off the AGC. My on camera mic sounds better.

Another winner for my Rodeo of Rode mics

It is lightweight; needs no batteries; produces great sound and the suggested Windbuster works just great and the nasty wind sounds are gone.

The Rode VideoMic GO is not compatible with the Saramonic SR-AX101 audio adapter. You will need to plug it into a camera or audio recorder that provides bias voltage (plug-in power) via the 3.5mm connector only.
