Vello LH-49 overview

  • 1Description

The dedicated Vello LH-49 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Olympus's M.ZUIKO Digital ED 60mm f/2.8 lens. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Designed to accommodate the exact angle of view of the camera's lens
Minimizes flare and ghosting by blocking out stray light
Protects your lens from accidental impact and the elements

    Vello LH-49 reviews

LH-49 Dedicated Lens Hood is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value This is an aftermarket item for the Olympus 60 mm macro lens. The hood works reasonably well and is less than half the price of the OEM lens hood. The pinch lens cap as provided by Olympus can't be attached or removed when the lens hood is in place. That having been said, the lens hood is deep enough to provide ample protection for the front element. I keep my lens in the bag front side down when not in use making the lens cap unnecessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value Epson makes a very innovative hood based on the same design as the hood for its pro series 40 - 150 zoom, but it is rather pricey. This hood is much less expensive and fills my needs very well. Stores by reversing it on the lens and then comes off and mounts very quickly. So far, no flair in bright sun when in use, but that really was not a problem before using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit at a fraction the cost of the Olympus version Excellent hood, perfect fit for the Olympus 60mm f/2.8 macro. The Olympus hood is way overpriced. This option is great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Be smart with your $$$ and buy this. Don't overspend on something as silly as a plastic lens shade from the manufacturer. Buy this instead and take yourself out to lunch with the savings.
