RODE SMR Overview

The Rode SMR is a professional-grade shock mount for large diaphragm condenser mics. Featuring a double-Lyre suspension system, the SMR enhances Rycote’s Lyre system by using a smaller inner Lyre to act as a tensioning element.

The SMR's removable all-metal pop filter provides an integrated solution for plosive protection, that is washable and designed to last as long as the shock mount and microphone. The SMR's clamping system design utilizes a large surface area, allowing for ample friction and weight handling, without the need for over-tightening of the locking thread. With the load distributed over a greater surface area, the clamping system is designed to better withstand the wear and tear of repeated use.

The SMR's frame is made from an engineering grade reinforced polymer. Vibration force is evenly distributed around the outer frame via the wide mounting rails, increasing the effectiveness of the Lyre system.

A base nut is also included, suitable for all compatible Rode microphones.

Great Rycote Shock Mount

Really great Rycote shock mount for my RDE NT1 microphone. It's does a great job keeping desk dumps and other noises from getting to the mic. I would highly recommend it over the shock mount that comes with the RDE NT1 and NT1-A

Difficult to use with NT-USB

This is the recommended shock mount (according to Rode's website) for the Rode NT-USB. That's why I bought it. Here's the thing, if you use the mixer knob a lot (the one on the mic that mixes your headphones between mic input and computer signal) you will be as frustrated as I was. That particular knob is almost completely inaccessible behind the suspension system. The knob itself is also hard plastic, so it's not easy to get a grip on what little you can reach with your fingertips. I ended up making it usable again with some large O-rings to give the knob a little traction. When I wrote to Rode to ask them if there was a better solution they replied with, That's the way it's designed. Well... yeah. I knew that. I'm looking at it. Let's just say I found their reply less than satisfactory. Other than that it seems like a fine product. Seems well made (although it is plastic) and durable. As far as dampening vibration it also seems to work well. But for you NT-USB owners (or other Rode mics with knobs) - you have been warned.

Does it come with a ring mount for the NT-USB? Is the ring nut/mount necessary to use this?
Asked by: Kathleen
Hello Kathleen, the Rode NT-USB is internally shock mounted. However, if you are looking for an upgraded shock mount to add to your setup, the SMR will come with the ring mount. That being said, so does the NT-USB.

Does it make sense to use the Rode SMR with the Rode NT USB while the NT USB is on the little stand that it comes with? Or should I use the SMR only with the NT USB while on a boom arm?
Asked by: Kam
This shock mount with pop filter may be a bit heavy for the small legs that come with the NT USB microphone I would suggest using a more sturdy desk top stand, such as the Auray TT-6220 Telescoping Tabletop Microphone Stand (Black), BH #AUTT6220B, which would allow for better stability.

Is it compatible with Neumann TLM 103?
Asked by: Daniel
No, the RODE SMR Advanced Shock Mount is not compatible for use with the Neumann TLM 103 Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone. For a compatible shock mount, you can use the Auray SSM-NMN Suspension Shockmount for Neumann Microphones (B&H # AUSSMNMN), the Neumann EA-1MT - Elastic Suspension for TLM103, 193 and M147 Studio Microphones - Black (B&H # NEEA1MT), or the Neumann EA-1 - Elastic Suspension for TLM103, 193 and M147 Studio Microphones - Nickel (B&H # NEEA1).

Is this shockmount compatible with the EV-RE20?
Asked by: Evan
The RODE SMR Advanced Shock Mount for Large Diaphragm Condenser Mics, B&H # ROSMRASM, is suitable for all RODE large diaphragm condenser microphones only. The Auray SSM-BC10 Microphone Suspension Shockmount (Black Matte), B&H # AUSSMBC10, would work with the EV RE-20 microphone: https://bhpho.to/4dq8zOi.
