Does it come with a ring mount for the NT-USB? Is the ring nut/mount necessary to use this?
Hello Kathleen, the Rode NT-USB is internally shock mounted. However, if you are looking for an upgraded shock mount to add to your setup, the SMR will come with the ring mount. That being said, so does the NT-USB.

Does it make sense to use the Rode SMR with the Rode NT USB while the NT USB is on the little stand that it comes with? Or should I use the SMR only with the NT USB while on a boom arm?
This shock mount with pop filter may be a bit heavy for the small legs that come with the NT USB microphone I would suggest using a more sturdy desk top stand, such as the Auray TT-6220 Telescoping Tabletop Microphone Stand (Black), BH #AUTT6220B, which would allow for better stability.

For a compatible shock mount, you can use the Auray SSM-NMN Suspension Shockmount for Neumann Microphones (B&H # AUSSMNMN), the Neumann EA-1MT - Elastic Suspension for TLM103, 193 and M147 Studio Microphones - Black (B&H # NEEA1MT), or the Neumann EA-1 - Elastic Suspension for TLM103, 193 and M147 Studio Microphones - Nickel (B&H # NEEA1).
