502AH Video Head & MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod Kit Overview

This B&H Kit includes the Manfrotto 502AH Pro Video Head and the MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod. The 502AH features a flat base and 15.5 lb payload, and the tripod offers a max height of 63" with the center column raised. The standard max height is 53".

Manfrotto MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod

The Manfrotto MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod is an addition to the popular 190 series, adding a Quick Power Lock System, ground level adapter, and an Easy Link attachment. It can hold up to 15.4 lb of gear, and has a maximum height of 63". The ground-level adapter replaces the center column to allow the tripod's mounting plate to sit just 3.5" above the ground with the legs at their widest angle.

The QPL system allows the three leg sections to be completely extended with one hand for simple set up. An Easy Link adapter attachment allows instant connection between tripod and accessories, such as LED lights for macro photography and DSLR video applications using Manfrotto articulated arms and brackets. Each leg can be set at four different angles to accommodate uneven ground or rough terrain.

Manfrotto 502AH Pro Video Head with Flat Base

The Manfrotto 502AH Pro Video Head with Flat Base is an affordable yet remarkably fully featured professional head that represents an advance over the popular 501HDV, with sturdier construction and featuring Manfrotto's patented bridging technology (inherited from the 509 and 504 heads). This head is designed for executing cinematic moves with compact camcorders and DSLR cameras. The 502AH comes in two versions—the "AH" flat base version with 3/8"-16 mounting hole such as this one, and the "A" ball base version which is separately available.

The weight capacity is 22 lb and the counterbalance supports 8.8 lb. The balance plate's 3.27" range allows you to correct for uneven payloads due to matte boxes or DSLR rig configurations.

The bridging technology ensures that the pan friction control is intuitive and easy to set but is also protected against knocks. There are independent locks for pan and tilt, and drag for both is selectable in a continuous range from zero to the maximum level. This allows you to operate the head in a confident, smooth manner using the included pan bar.

Pan drag and tilt drag are continuously adjustable from 0 (no drag) to the maximum level
Sliding quick release plate secured by a secondary safety system
The flat base has a 3/8"-16 female threaded mounting hole for attaching to tripods, sliders, and other platforms

question

Does it work well with a full shoulder rig? Im used to ball head tripods with wider legs.
Asked by: Donghyun
The determining factor is the weight of the full shoulder rig you have or are considering. This will take 13 lbs with 8 lbs counterbalancing ability. If you rig weighs in that range, it is a good choice. If not, you must consider a video head and tripod of greater capacity.

Can the center column be removed or replaced with something shorter in order to go as low as the legs are able to?
Asked by: Samuel
Yes. If you look at the bottom of the center column, you'll see a triangular base platform. Release the platform, pull out the center column, use the triangular platform as the base, and screw your head onto it. Voila!

What bag do you guys have for this tripod? I bought the Manfrotto 75cm bag which is certainly long enough, but the 502 is just a bit too broad for this. Must exchange. Thanks!
