SHAPE FS7BR overview

  • 1Description

The SHAPE F7S Bundle Rig is a starter rig for the Sony FS7 that directly supports the optional Sony Zoom Control via a rosette adapter. It also features a V-Lock delta adapter allowing compatibility with V-Lock tripod adapters, such as the Sony VCT-14 and Panasonic SHAN-TM700. It's also adjustable for matte boxes and supports offset camera mounting brackets. The bundle includes the SHAPE 8000 V-Lock Quick Release Baseplate, multi-adjustable telescopic handle, and front and rear 15mm rods.

The baseplate features a long format design for larger cameras and can be used shoulder mounted, tripod mounted, or attached to delta tripod adapters. It includes a removable shoulder pad and offers SHAPE/ARRI standard rosette adapters on both sides. 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 tripod mount threads are available underneath the shoulder pad. The front rod adapter can be adjusted vertically to support a matte-box and other accessories. The baseplate has three long camera mount slots, and the off-center ones support an optional SHAPE 15mm Studio Adapter for offset mounting. Nine 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting threads are located behind the three slots for flexible accessorizing.

The Telescopic Handle can be extended out 1.5" and can also be rotated 360°. The rotating capability allows it to be adjusted for left- and right-handed use. At two points, this handle features SHAPE's push-button technology which allows for instant, precise adjustments.

The included rods are 8" and 4" long.

  • BP0008 V-Lock Quick Release Baseplate

The SHAPE BP0008 V-Lock Quick Release Baseplate is a long format baseplate for larger cameras like the Alexa, F5, C300, and broadcast cameras. It can be used shoulder mounted, tripod mounted, and attached to V-lock tripod adapters.

The baseplate includes a removable shoulder pad and features rosette adapters for SHAPE and ARRI standard handles. It has 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 tripod mount threads and a V-lock delta adapter for attaching to the Sony VCT-14 or Panasonic SHAN-TM700 tripod adapter. The shoulder pad secures on by touch fasteners. The tripod mount threads are located underneath the shoulder pad. 8" and 4" 15mm rods are included for the front and back.

This baseplate is the same as the SHAPE BP0007 except it is lighter and has a modified rod adapter in front. The reduced weight is the result of a thinner design, and the rod adapter features one ratchet knob instead of two, allowing quicker rod adjustments. For attaching a matte-box and other accessories, the rod adapter can be adjusted vertically if you remove the screw holding it in position. This baseplate also supports optional SHAPE 15mm Studio and 19mm Studio adapters in place of the included one.

The baseplate features three camera mount slots, all supporting 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screws. The off-center slots allow you to mount your camera offset if you use a 15mm Studio Adapter. 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting threads are peppered behind the three slots for attaching articulating arms and other accessories. Two 1/4"-20 and two 3/8"-16 camera mount screws are included. This baseplate is best used with cameras that use external viewfinders.

SHAPE FS7BR reviews

Sony FS7 Bundle Rig is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works well overall with a few drawbacks I ended up purchasing this baseplate over Zacuto's universal baseplate for a few reasons: Although the balance is better with Zacuto, the viewfinder was still way too close to my face even with their Axis Mini. I find the balance with this baseplate isn't too bad, especially if you have the extension unit with a v-mount battery on the back. Even though the build quality of the shoulder pad feels cheap compared to Zacuto's, I found it to fit much more securely on my shoulder. It's lighter than Zacuto's plate, but not as light as Vocas'. The telescopic handle is excellentno complaints there. Super easy to adjust. It's the best part of the system. It comes with rear rods, which is a nice bonus. And for the drawbacks: This base plate is very tricky to mount to a VCT quick release plate (I have the SONY VCT-14). I think it's because the pad in the back goes down so far that it can get in the way of connecting with the rear tab on the quick release plate. As a result, the camera has almost fallen off the tripod because it appeared to be secure, but wasn't. If you have an assistant mounting the camera for the first time, make sure you walk them through it. It's the only baseplate I've encountered with this issue. Screwing the base plate into the FS7 was much more difficult than it needed to be. The stationary screw at the front of the plate was very difficult to get to thread properly, so much so that I found that it began to strip the screw socket on the camera. So be careful as you screw it in. Overall, this is a better plate than what Zacuto offers, but if you have the money, go with the Vocas baseplate and buy the Shape telescopic handle separately. I was willing to overlook these shortcomings to save some money. Time will tell if that was a good call...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rig I am a DP and own a rental house. I love that you can set the camera down and it stands up right. I purchased the v mount plate and you can now go straight from hh to tripod. Everything is quickly adjustable on this rig. I really like it. Its a great rig. The only con I have is that SHAPE has made a great product but its build quality is still not as good as Zuccuto. But still very good. The handle extension is great as well. You can finally adjust it without a screwdriver. Sony should have done better than that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile rig with a solid build. First experience using this rig was as a rental for 9 days straight of handheld with a Sony FS7 complete with the extension unit and battery combined with a Canon 17-120mm Cine Lens...very heavy! Although fairly front heavy I was able to adjust the plate and telescopic arm to a bearable operating position although not perfect. Fast forward a couple months I decided to buy it for my Canon C300 in anticipation of purchasing an FS7 in the near future....works like a charm! With the C300 in combination with a Gratical and any of my Canon lenses this setup works great and with the short 15mm rods in the rear I am able to mount a Pix 240i no problem if needed. The weight distribution and balance is very comfortable and having the option of using it for two different cameras made it an easy choice. One thing I really like is the ability to adjust the arm at the push of button and the handgrips are comfy. Very happy with this purchase.
