Fujifilm MCEX-16 overview

  • 1Description

The MCEX-16 16mm Extension Tube from FUJIFILM is is a dedicated extension tube that is designed exclusively for XF and XC lenses and X-series cameras. Mounting an extension tube between a lens and a camera body increases the distance between the lens elements and the sensor enabling users to focus closer than the normal Minimum focus distance of the lens.

This 16mm extension tube features electronic contacts that pass information between Fujinon X-Mount lenses and FUJIFILM X-series camera bodies and retains autofocus and auto exposure capability. When am extension tube is attached, the focus range of the lens is limited so users can also find a focus point by moving the camera forward and backward.

The mount rings of the tube are made of solid metal and designed to precisely fit the X-series lenses and cameras, also the look and feel of the tube seamlessly blends with the X-Series line of compact system cameras. The below table details the Minimum working distance and Minimum focus distance of compatible X-mount lenses with and without the extension tube attached.

    Fujifilm MCEX-16 reviews

MCEX-16 16mm Extension Tube for Fujifilm X-Mount is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used with Fuji X-T1 Can do fun things with an extension tube for macro photography. Not much to go wrong as it is a hollow tube but all electrical connections were made and definitely had Fuji quality. Tried it with 55-200 mm, 18-55 mm and 35 mm fixed. Found easiest to use (and received the most magnification) with the 18-55 mm set at about 35mm. Easiest to focus with the zoom rather than the focus ring. Use the 10x mag focus enhancer for best accuracy. If speed is high and you have enough light, you can use hand-held. The 18-55 mm does offer some stability increase (you'll need it!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, Fuji Extension Tubes I've done lots of macro photography, but except for using the Zeiss 50mm macro, there really hasn't been a good alternative for us Fuji photographers. All that changes now with the release of the two Fuji extension tubes. These tubes work as advertised and are well-built. My only complaint is that i think Fuji should have shipped small felt lens bags to protect them from the elements while crammed into our camera bags. A minor thing for sure, but it seems like it makes sense. The contacts to your lenses are solid and the workmanship is top-notch. No complaints and highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for macro This extension tube allows you to use all your lenses almost as if they were macro lenses. At $ it is expensive (you can usually finds two extension tubes -11 and 16mm- for $-). This is the price to pay to have something genuine, but it could have come with the MCEC-11 for that price. Please not that it doesn't come with any cap to protect it, which is cheap from Fuji. Beside this, it does what it is meant to do. Focusing can be tough, and it is often easier to move the camera that trying to focus. I have used it with X-T1+35mm and it works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product -- BUT.... this works fine, the fit is great, and it's a good accessory for longer lenses (I used it on the Fuji 18-55mm). BUT.. why on earth can't Fuji provide caps to protect the contacts and keep dust/debris out when it's sitting in a camera bag? We shouldn't have to go out and buy the same kind of protection that normally comes with Fuji lenses. Come on, Fuji.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well with X-T1 and with 11mm tube This extension tube works well with my X-T1 with both short and long lenses. Solidly built; no third-party reliability worries. Once I got the hang of the decoupler lever which must be depressed to unmount the lens in front of it, it worked very smoothly. As noted by others, there is no cap provided. It also should be noted that the 11mm and 16mm extension tubes can easily be used together - a somewhat pricey set, but one that works very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended! I use this on my Fuji X-T10 and so far the results are great. I'm using it with the kit zoom 18-55mm, the 27mm prime, and the 55-200mm lenses. It works well with all of them, although when using the 18-55mm and the 27mm the lens is very close to the object you're shooting ? within millimeters. I don't mind that so much, though I really enjoy using it with the 55-200mm. It allows much greater shooting distance. I definitely recommend this extension tube. Gives great quality, works with many lenses and not too expensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like other extension tubes only pricier! I use this to get up close with my Fiji X lenses for the occasional macro like photo. I prefer the 55-200mm as it gives a little more working room. I don't really do macro work so a full up 1:1 lens is a gross overkill. This tube works. It is well made and will probably last forever. I may be a klutz but the down side is that focusing takes practice. I typically get it close with auto then go to manual and move the camera to fine tune.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best quality This is probably somewhat over-priced, but I did not feel comfortable with the reviews of the less expensive auto tubes. The best macro equipment I have is still totally manual Nikon (lens, bellows, etc) adapted to the Fuji, but this offers the ability to use Fuji lenses in auto function. It works very well with prime lenses, perhaps not quite as well with the 18-55 zoom. It is very well made & will be useful, but I will continue to use my manual lenses, tubes, bellows, etc more than this. --If you don't have any macro equipment this is probably a good place to start.
