Designed to balance the overall exposure within a high-contrast scene, the 85 x 110mm Soft Edge Graduated Neutral Density 1.2 Filter from Formatt-Hitech is ideal for situations involving both bright and dark areas, such as an open sky and shadowed foreground. Half of the filter has 1.2 neutral density and the other half is clear, with a soft-edged transition between the two that is ideally suited for use with medium and wide-angle lenses or when there is an uneven, undulating horizon. By reducing the exposure in selective areas, you are able to balance the overall exposure of the scene in order to gain detail in both bright and dark areas.

This filter is constructed from lightweight, durable optical resin, which is also designed to maintain image clarity and not affect the overall color balance of the scene. It measures 3.3 x 4.3" / 85 x 110 mm, is 1.5mm thick, and is suitable for use in 85mm filter holders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for BLENDING skies and 4grounds I love this filter. Last week in Big Sur I used it every day for landscape / seascape shots. The sun was shining brightly the entire week, and without this (and another 0.6 filter attached) I never could've got the shots I did - would've had to shoot twice and blend in post. One suggestion - go with this or a 0.9, whether Hard Edge or Soft. I find the 0.6 (1/3 stop) insufficient for bright sunlight. Many shots I used both together. Another suggestion: try using Live View if your cam has it. It can make positioning the filter much easier, provided you're working off a tripod. You are using your tripod aren't you?!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neutral, Good Quality, Good price I purchased this filter to replace a broken singh-ray ND grad, which are pretty much the standard in ND grads. The singh-rays are way expensive for what they are (a piece of plastic) so I thought I would try out the Hitechs to save some cash. It seems to be as neutral as the singh-ray and just as high quality. They are a bit shorter than other p-series size filters, but this has not turned out to be a problem for me, and I am using them on 77mm filter-thread lenses. If you need a high quality set of ND grads you should check these out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job well, Watch out for cast It does the job well compared to cokin filters.. I got a filter that had this magenta/reddish cast on cloudy/white skies days...So I replaced and the new one had considerably lesser color need to live with it.. On clear sky days the filter works like a charm , no color cast whatsoever.. Enjoying the new filter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable Filter The filter is good for clean skies, if its overcast or there are clouds ,a magenta/reddish cast is present on the images.. The intensity of this depends on the filter.. My first one had deep cast so got it returned.. The replacement is far better.. so watch out..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality for the price This is a lifesaver in bright sunlight - it's too strong for anything other than a bright, sunny day or sunrise/sunset, but it's perfect at that. Also big enough you can use it as a straight ND 1.2 if you adjust it properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This filter is a great use in landscape photography to help controlling situations with a high contrast latitude. Hitech filters are as good as other expensive filters and i didnt notice at this point any colour cast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hitech Grad. ND 1.2 Soft Edge Filter I was looking for a more affordable but high quality four stop graduated ND filter that would fit a Cokin P holder.. I had bought another well known and much more expensive brand in the past but still needed a four stop filter. In an effort to save money I tried the Hitech brand and have been very satisfied. I was concerned that this filter was shorter than the brand I had been buying but this has not proven to be an issue. This is a great filter at a very affordable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hitech GND 1.2 Soft Edge for Cokin P I use this product in the hazy skies of Washington, DC which are often. The fine quality of the filter and the 4 stops of darkness are great for dakening the skies and maintianing good optics. Best for use when clouds are visible. Definitely worth the money.
