Designed to balance the overall exposure within a high-contrast scene, the 85 x 110mm Hard Edge Graduated Neutral Density 0.9 Filter from Formatt-Hitech is ideal for situations involving both bright and dark areas, such as an open sky and shadowed foreground. Half of the filter has 0.9 neutral density and the other half is clear, with a hard-edged transition between the two that is ideally suited for use with long focal length lenses or when there is a defined, uninterrupted horizon, such as a seascape. By reducing the exposure in selective areas, you are able to balance the overall exposure of the scene in order to gain detail in both bright and dark areas.

This filter is constructed from lightweight, durable optical resin, which is also designed to maintain image clarity and not affect the overall color balance of the scene. It measures 3.3 x 4.3" / 85 x 110 mm, is 1.5mm thick, and is suitable for use in 85mm filter holders.

85 x 110mm Hard Edge Graduated Neutral Density 0.9 Filter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would recommend this! This product is great! Its not as expensive as the Lee or SinghRay and you essentially get the same results. For someone with a low budget, this is definitely your best fit. The filter itself is great. I shoot many panoramic shots with it and I love the filter. Not only should you get this filter but a Cokin P Holder, because it may be a drag to handheld this filter. Its very good for sunrises and sunsets with horizons. Its even good for broad daylight photos. The only problem I would have is that its a bit dark and if your shooting trees you might want to get the Soft Edge instead. This is specifically for shots with a horizon that is straight like the beach or ocean. Besides that, its an amazing filter and I would definitely recommend this to somebody.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neutral, Good Quality, Good price I purchased this filter to replace a broken singh-ray ND grad, which are pretty much the standard in ND grads. The singh-rays are way expensive for what they are (a piece of plastic) so I thought I would try out the Hitechs to save some cash. It seems to be as neutral as the singh-ray and just as high quality. They are a bit shorter than other p-series size filters, but this has not turned out to be a problem for me, and I am using them on 77mm filter-thread lenses. If you need a high quality set of ND grads you should check these out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Light Modifier Purchased this filter along with the 0.6 HE ND and the Formatt Hightech Starter Kit with graduated ND filters. I ordered on the recommendation of a workshop facilitator to Yosemite last week. What an amazing difference. Very dramatic results when using to tone down high contrast highlights. Use right on the horizon or at any angle to remove a hot spot and the results can be dramatic. Amazing effects during early morning sunrises or evening sunsets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent filter for the money I have only used this filter stacked with another hitech 3 stop ND. There was a color cast, and all the reviews said there would be one. I don't recall if I was able to correct the white balance; I don't think I liked the shots. I'm looking forward to getting to use it when I have more free time. It does what it says it does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy way to enhance the sky Due to the hard edge, it is easy to see the effect through the viewfinder. This filter really helps enhance the sky and brings out detail that otherwise might be blown out. Also have used it to make the dusk sky look very dramatic on my photos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product This filter is a great use in landscape photography to help controlling situations with a high contrast latitude. Hitech filters are as good as other expensive filters and i didnt notice at this point any colour cast

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this filter I used this only for the first time this past weekend during a sunset workshop. The use of this filter just elevated my photography to the next level. It was just perfect. I can't wait to use this filter again.
