LensCoat LC1004002 Overview

Dedicated to the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II telephoto, this Realtree AP Snow camo Lens Cover from LensCoat provides waterproof protection for your investment. It also safeguards against scratches and impact, while offering a thermal barrier to keep your hands warm in cold conditions. A small hole lines up with the camera's mount indicator to make quick, easy work of aligning the lens with the mount.

Another benefit of the LensCoat is that it helps break up the shape of your lens, making it less noticeable to wildlife so you're less likely to scare them off. The cover is made in the USA from 100% closed-cell neoprene. Included with it is an additional piece designed for use when the lens is zoomed out to 400mm. This accessory can be attached and removed quickly via the touch-fastener strip.

The lens hood part of the cover fits a bit too tight and keeps the lens hood for connecting to the camera properly

Any suggestions as to best camp pattern? Arctic trip (only 1) and safaris in Africa top list. I am thinking digital as it seems to just break up the lens but new to this
Asked by: Cathy
Unfortunately, there is not one particular LensCoat pattern designed for use both in Arctic conditions and in jungle/savannah environments. Most photographers that will be shooting in multiple locations will purchase multiple lens coats. If you will only be taking each trip once and you do not want to invest in multiple lens coats, you may either use the lens as-is, or purchase the pattern for the location in which you think you will take the most images. The Digital Camo option would be good for arctic conditions and may have slightly more flexibility, but the color may stand out in sandy or wooden environments found in the jungle/savannah, for which the Realtree Max5 may be a better option.

It fits ok but I found the quality not very good. Its too thin, not tight enough on the lens and the one on the lens cover slips off...this is only after about a year or so...

question

Does this fit the older style 100-400 L push/pull style lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, this one will only fit the version 2 lens, if you have. Version1, you will need the cover specifically made for that lens, hope this helps

question

How do you zoom with the neoprene on the barrel, or is it stuck at 400?
Asked by: James
It can only be added when fully extended, it's attached with Velcro. So if you have it on a tripod at 400 or if keep extended to 400 I use it, otherwise I leave it off most of the time

question

Sorry I have another question. I am really considering buying this wrap. But it is costly! Do you really feel it gets you closer to birds if you are also wearing camo clothes and hat? What if you are not wearing camo clothes, then does it even matter? Thank you.
Asked by: Rhiannon S.
I would say that it can, provided you are stealthy in other ways as well (no sudden movements, camo clothes). Breaking up the head profile is important, because birds get most nervous when they perceive they are being looked at. But it won't fool birds all the time, and there are limits. The wrap also protects your lens from scratches, so you could look at it as an investment, if you ever want to sell your lens one day.

question

Is this an all one piece cover or several pieces? Is it easy to take on and off?
Asked by: Rhiannon S.
There is a separate piece for each section of the lens. It is fairly easy to take on and off but I leave mine on all the time except for the zoom section. The smaller pieces tend to shift some and have to be adjusted but it is still a great product.
