Audio-Technica ATH-M70X Overview

Presented as the flagship model in the acclaimed M-Series monitor headphones, the Audio-Technica ATH-M70x headphones offer premium build quality, immense frequency extension, one-ear monitoring capability, and a space-saving, fold-flat design, making them advantageous for professional studio-based production, mastering, location recording, DJing, and audiophile-level listening. Outfitted with 45mm large-aperture dynamic drivers and an over-ear, closed-back design, the ATH-M70x headphones deliver impeccable balance and stunning bandwidth (5 Hz to 40 kHz) while isolating you from outside sounds.

Thanks to the 90° swiveling earcups, key metal components, and generous cushioning on the headband and earpads, the headphones are both highly durable and comfortable to wear. Three detachable, single-sided cables—one coiled and two straight—are included for optimal operation in the studio or on the go. Each cable sports a gold-plated 3.5mm mini plug for use with mobile devices and computer soundcards, and a 1/4" screw-on adapter is included for easy hookup to audio interfaces, mixers, and dedicated headphone amps. A carrying case is supplied with the ATH-M70x for convenient storage and transport of the headphones.

45mm Drivers
The ATH-M70x features proprietary 45mm large-aperture dynamic drivers with rare earth (neodymium) magnets and CCAW (copper-clad aluminum wire) voice coils for high-quality sound reproduction.
Tuned for Balance and Wide Tonal Extension
The drivers and headphone design work together to provide a sonic signature tuned for perfect balance along with accurate extension to extreme high and low frequencies. With a stunning frequency response of 5 Hz to 40 kHz, the ATH-M70x can reproduce everything from the lowest rumble to the highest shimmer.
Over-Ear, Sound-Isolating Design
The ATH-M70x utilizes a circumaural design that contours around the ears for excellent sound isolation in loud environments. This over-ear, closed-back style is optimal for reducing bleed and separating you from outside sounds.
90° Swiveling Earcups and Fold-Flat Design
Equipped with 90° swiveling earcups, the ATH-M70x ensures a great fit and allows effortless one-ear monitoring, a welcome benefit for DJs and singers. Additionally, the headphones boast a fold-flat design to saving space during storage. A carrying case is supplied for ideal protection and convenience while transporting the headphones.
Three Detachable Single-Sided Cables
To expand its versatility, the ATH-M70x incorporates a detachable cable design that exits from the left side. This enables convenient cable swapping and makes it easier to distinguish the different sides of the headphone. Three cables are included—a 3.9 to 9.8' coiled cable, a 9.8' straight cable, and a 3.9' straight cable—to let you choose the best cable for sessions, traveling, or listening at home.
3.5mm Plug and 1/4" Screw-On Adapter
All three cables are terminated with a gold-plated 3.5mm TRS mini plug for easy hookup to mobile devices, MP3 players, and computer headphone jacks. A secure 1/4" screw-on adapter is included for compatibility with audio interfaces, mixers, and dedicated headphone amplifiers. Built-in strain relief on the 3.5mm mini plug reduces the likelihood of damaging the connection if the cable is pulled.

Would you recommend these for field monitors? Do they block outside noise well?

These ATH m70x headphones do block outside noise very well, and will yield very accurate sound for field monitoring. If you are buying headphones that will be used exclusively for field monitoring, you might also want to consider the ATH-m40x as a less costly option, which also folds down smaller for transport. https://bhpho.to/3LwgMRY

If you liked the 40', s then you will simply LOVE the new Audio-Technica ATH-M70x Pro headphones. Overall frequency response is improved with no discernable compromise to efficiency. These will get loud, but will remain virtually distortionless on most content. They weigh only about an ounce more and are still very comfortable even with their larger 45mm drivers. Fairly flat but not a bit bright in the upper midrange. Good detail too.
