Nikon S33 overview

  • 1Description

Take the blue COOLPIX S33 Digital Camera from Nikon to the beach, pool, skiing, or any other type of family adventure without worry due to waterproofing down to 33', shockproofing to 5', and freezeproofing down to 14°F. Of course, quality photographs and video is key with a 13.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 4.1-12.3mm f/3.9-5.9 NIKKOR 3x optical zoom lens which is equivalent to 30-90mm in 35mm format. This combination will provide high resolution images with low noise as well as Full HD 1080p video with stereo sound at up to 30 fps. Also, a 6x Dynamic Fine Zoom function will effectively double your focal length.

Operability in these demanding conditions is always a concern, which is why the S33 features oversized buttons and a simplified menu system on the 2.7" 230k-dot rear LCD screen. Other features include ISO sensitivity of up to 1600 and 4.7 fps continuous shooting. The camera also features a dedicated movie record button for jumping directly to video. Overall, this camera is designed for worry-free intuitive handling in a wide range of conditions.

13.2MP 1/3.1" CMOS Image Sensor
Delivering high resolution 13.2-megapixel images and Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps, the 1/3.1" CMOS image sensor is the key to image quality. It also enables low light shooting with sensitivity up to ISO 1600 and continuous shooting at 4.7 fps for up to 11 frames.
NIKKOR 3x Optical Zoom Lens
Enabling users to get the shot they want is the 4.1-12.3mm f/3.3-5.9 NIKKOR 3x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 30-90mm in the 35mm format. It works with a 6x Dynamic Fine Zoom function to effectively double the focal length. An Electronic VR system reduces the appearance of camera shake as well and there is a 4x digital zoom option for a effective focal length of 360mm.
Waterproof, Shockproof, & Freezeproof Construction
Designed to be taken everywhere, the S33 features an exceptionally durable construction. It is waterproof to 33', shockproof to 5', and freezeproof to 14°F. Also, the camera body features oversized buttons and a simplified menu to make it easier to change settings while working in tough conditions.
Other Features
  • Make slideshows with sound directly in camera
  • Multiple in-camera editing options
  • Full HD 1080p video recording at up to 30 fps

Nikon S33 reviews

COOLPIX S33 Digital Camera (Blue) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent for the price There aren't a lot of shockproof waterproof point and shoots with decent file size and lens. It's hard for me to be fair as I am a full time professional and generally use gear many levels higher than this. I bought it for my 3 year old and it fits the bill. She can operate it and she loves to take pictures. The only problem is the LCD- if you're even a little off axis from straight-on the quality is poor and non-representative of the image. She is careful with it but in case she gets it wet or drops it, I'm confident it will be fine. It's rated for a 5 foot drop and waterproof to several feet which will be great when she wants to shoot in the pool. I would have given it 4 stars if not for the lousy LCD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect gear for 5th graders I bought 5 cameras for 5th grade science expeditions. Criteria were ease of use and ability to withstand gradeschool rough handling. Our first expedition with the cameras was water sampling in the rain. Passed with high marks. Ease of use and withstanding wet conditions were excellent. Photo resolution was terrific.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Simple Good Point and Shoot with some cons It's a nice camera for the price range for a day at the pool or beach with the kids. Kid friendly when it comes to drops as well. If you want an easy point and shoot this will do the trick. It seems to have a faster shutter and the battery appears to have a longer charge than past point and shoots I've owned. On the downside, the scene selection doesn't have an auto setting, so shooting just average photos is not an option (ie night scene, up close, under water, food, etc are what you have to choose from). Once the camera was placed under water it had bubbles coming from it and the microphone is now muffled, not clear. So, not too sure about the entire waterproof thing. True color is also not so-good on this camera with different hues than the actual object showing on the image.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Mother's Day present for my mom I had to search around for this camera in blue, which i thought my mom would like. She loves it, and says she leaves it on her side table, like a piece of art. It's shockproof, so that when she drops it (which she will...), it'll be ok, unlike her last camera. It's also waterproof, so, another worry vanquished, and she is having a ball taking photos with it !. For the past 6 months with her old camera, all the pics have a big blank spot in the left center. Looked totally weird ! We are all so happy with this purchase !

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Really liked this camera Great pictures.Main advantage is easy to use underawter where all other underwater cameras I've had are difficult to see the settings even though I have 20/20 vision. Instruction by far best I've seen as to how to not let water into camera by condensation from quick temperture changes etc. Big problem is it leaked, and was ruined very soon after purchase in shallow water. I don't think the water seal is designed very well. B&H refunded my purchase with no hassel (under 30 days). I don't know whether to try a 2nd one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best Gift for a child This camera was given to a child old for her to take pictures without borrowing her parent's smart phone. This allows her the independence to take pictures as she sees them and things are different when you are only 44 inches tall. I gave four stars only because it is only two weeks old and I am not sure how it will stand the abuse of a child who currently is taking it everywhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good camera for the money I purchased this camera for our trip to Grand Cayman. It did not disappoint. It was easy to use and turn on and off under water. We went down to 30 feet on a Sea Trek walk on the bottom and no issues. The battery lasted about 1 1/2 hours being on most of the time. But it had an auto shut off which I'm sure helped, but was a pain when I wanted to take a quick shot and had to power up again. The pictures turned out quite good. Especially the close up ones with flash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good little camera I have not had this camera very long, but I've been pleased with the images that I've gotten. They are sharp and clear, and I was really pleased with the close-up (Flower) application. The only thing I am missing on the camera is a Landscape option. I tried the underwater option by filling my sink with water and putting a small plaque at the bottom. Even though it was a very close shot, it came out very clear.
