Matthews C+Stand 40" Turtle Base Reviews

The base of the stand is annoying to use

The base of the stand is a pain to fold and unfold. There are much better designs from the same company and competitors.

The real deal

Don't waste your time or money on the cheaper knock offs, you get what you pay for and these are worth every penny. If you only want to buy stands once these are the ones you want.

These are our favorite C-Stand. Very solid quality. Matte black finish. Removable base. Love these.

Love these c-stands. I only have two, but wouldn't look to save a buck or two for anything else.

Can't beat Matthews for size and build quality

I needed a C-stand with removable turtle base to use on my sound cart. Mounted on the cart, without the base, it serves as an antenna mast. Detached from the cart, with the base and an added grip head, it holds a boom pole for seated interviews. When I first bought my cart, these stands were on backorder with no relief in sight, so I went with the Impact version that was in stock. Not a terrible stand, but it's bulky and heavy. It does the job, but the size makes it clumsy when clamped to my cart. I finally found the Matthews stands in stock and immediately ordered one. They are sturdy, strong, and streamlined. Now, my cart feels better with the C-stand clamped to it, and I have less weight to carry when I use it with its base for holding a boom pole. There's a reason Matthews is one of the leading names in grip gear, and has been for a long time.

The best C stand

This is the 3rd Matthews stand I've purchased in 6 mos. I own other brands but this is the one that is replacing the others.

Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes.

I'm not new to C Stands, but this is my first Matthews C Stand. I questioned if it really made sense to splurge on a more expensive Matthews stand, as compared to a cheaper off brand. I mean, how different could they really be? But I had heard good things, and pulled the trigger on this. Well, after using it for a few shoots, I get it now. Why these cost more, why they get such great reviews, and why I'll be buying only Matthews stands from now on. This is easily the most robust, well engineered, and overbuilt lighting stand I've ever laid hands on. Yes, other brands might look just like this, but the similarities end there. The construction and fit 'n finish of this stand leaves other brands in the dust.

question

Since the turtle base is removable, is the tall legs still able to go up and down the stand to accommodate standing on an uneven platform? It seem like it might not as the base is one assembly and the stand is another.
Asked by: Yi Fan C.
The C+ Stand does not have the sliding leg feature. This feature is available in the Sliding Leg C-Stand PN:756040

can extension arm carry Siros 800 S ?
Asked by: ZIHNI
Yes, the Siros 800 can either be mounted to the back of the Grip Arm with its 5/8" receiver or onto a 6" Collared Pin inserted into the Grip Head Attached to the Arm. The weight of the unit is within the capacity of the Arm, be sure to properly weight the base of the stand.

I have some Matthews c-stands with the sliding leg. When standing behind those with the large leg forward, the middle leg is to your right and smallest leg to your left. I notice with the turtle base the smallest leg points right. Does this mismatch interfere when staging / nesting the stands together in a row?

The position of the legs on this Matthew C+ Stand with Turtle Base and Grip Arm Kit does not interfere with staging or nesting the stands together in a row.

question

Can anyone tell me the actual weight of the Matthews 40 riser+turtle base? In the Matthews catalog it says 11 pounds, but lists the riser as 10lbs and base as 5lbs. I just want to know if it is lighter than the comparable avenger model(A2030D), listed as 13.7 pounds.
Asked by: Daniel
The Matthews stand without the arm and grip is, 11 lbs. The arm and grip adds another 4.5 lbs making the total 15.5 lbs.The Avenger stand, http://bhpho.to/1kYlzuw, with the grip and arm is 18.4 lbs.

Does this kit come with the baby pin?
Asked by: John
The top riser of the C-Stand riser is a welded baby pin. The non-grip head end of the C-Stand Arm is also the same diameter as a Baby Pin and functions as a mounting point for 5/8" recievers. A separate baby pin is not included.
