Nikon designed the 6x21 Coolshot 40i Laser Rangefinder to be an invaluable tool that measures the distance to flagsticks up to 450 yards away, and reflective targets up to 650 yards away. Because distance doesn't tell the whole story, the CoolShot 40i takes the angle of elevation into account and provides an accurate range for uphill and downhill shots. The compact, lightweight rangefinder employs Nikon's proprietary HYPER READ algorithm to deliver fast and stable measurements regardless of the distance to the target, and First Target Priority mode that automatically displays the distance to the closest target sighted when overlapping subjects are viewed. The CoolShot has a measurement accuracy of ±0.75 yd/m, displays the distance in 0.5 yd/m increments, and is displayed within 0.5 seconds.

The 6x magnification is suitable for identifying targets at mid-range distances and a long eye relief helps eyeglass wearers use it comfortably. Information is displayed in an in-view LED display and an auto-off function saves battery life. Multi-coated optics, weatherproof construction, a wide temperature tolerance, and one-touch activation make this rangefinder dependable and easy to use.

6x21 CoolShot 40i Laser Rangefinder is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Such a great rangefinder! The biggest plus on this rangefinder is the continuous mode, where it's able to measure the distances over 8 seconds continuously. Instead of trying to lock the target (and possibly missing it), using the continuous mode on this Nikon will almost always guarantee that you get the target, especially when the flag is far away. What I mean by that is that it's not necessary to aim exactly at a small flag when measuring. All you have to do is press and hold the laser button and aim AROUND the flag. Let's say the finder reads 200 yards targeting the background. Once you run the crosshairs over the flag, you'll see the distance change immediately to, for example, 78 yards. It's also very light, small, and ergonomically designed to fit your palm. Compared to some others, I find the viewfinder on the Nikon Coolshot very clear. The only con is the case it comes with. The button locks too tighly and I'm not able to open it with one hand when I have it strapped to my belt, but it may just be mine. Highly recommend the Nikon over the other brands!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from oil spots in viewfinder I bought a Nikon 40i rangefinder. The first time I took it to the course oil spots appeared in the viewfinder. I contacted Nikon and they asked me to send the unit in for repair. I asked them for a prepaid shipping label. Initially they did not want to do that, but after arguing with them they emailed me the return label. I sent my unit in to Nikon, and two days later received back from them a new unit. They had chosen to replace my original unit. I took the new unit out to the course and by the middle of the round oil spots again appeared inside the viewfinder. I contacted Nikon again, and they are sending me another return label to return the unit. There are issues with oil spots in the viewfinder with this product. Buyer beware. The product has been out only a couple months so I am sure you will see more posts like this.
