Intensity Pro 4K is a 4-lane PCIe card compatible with 4, 8, and 16 lane PCIe slots. We purchased and installed these cards into our Live Studio broadcast system using multiple cameras and found the installation easy and these card reliable. I would highly recommend using them.

Not good

Took way too long to figure out the correct settings for it to work. I was hoping to use it as a clean video output from Resolve 17. After close to an hour of changing every setting and resolution I could think of, I finally got it working. BUT the image had jittery lines throughout the screen which made it difficult to look at without getting a headache. I am using it with a 16'' MBP M1 Max in an external enclosure. Will be returning asap.

Awesome in theory but hard to use like most BM tech products

Dated software, so tough to use off the bat and not incredibly impressed by hardware but overall does what you'd think it could do. Figuring out a lot of the finer details still..

Great for a reference monitor.

I have it installed in the 7th slot of a 2019 Mac Pro.

Works great! Excellent quality.

Reading the other reviews it seems many have issues getting this to work. I had ZERO issues... Go to the blackmagic website and get the latest version of the software and install it. power off, install card, power on... Done. Run the configuration app to change your settings to match your input/output sources and then launch the DesktopVideo app to start capturing. I used this to capture some old VHS footage without a timebase corrector, so as I expected, really unstable footage was not able to be captured but it was a small percentage. Keep this in mind if you are looking to capture old VHS/8mm. As other reviews stated, the file sizes are huge when capturing, but with contemporary large drives this is not really an issue. Once you compress down the files, a 40GB Vhs capture can be H264 compressed down to about a 700MB Mp4. I also edit with Premiere Pro and use the HDMI out to a standard LED TV to preview what my output will look like on standard display. Quality is good and had no issues. Overall I think the Intensity Pro 4K performs as advertised. Simple install, Ease of use and great quality captures makes this a great purchase.

Good for HD, but ...

Levels are off for Standard Definition video capture, especially component levels. (See the vector scope image of SMPTE color bars.) On the other hand HDMI and HD capture work as expected. I would NOT recommend this Pro 4K card for capture of SD sources. The older Intensity Pro was better. Two stars only because the HDMI and HD work.

Works great right out of the b

I've been using the card for about two weeks now without any issues. It worked as soon as I installed it without any hitches. It was a perfect replacement for my older Intensity Pro card.

Versatile!

It's really awesome in the number of different types of inputs it takes. It even has an S-video adapter. I'm using it to digitize old vhs tapes

question

Seems to only support YUV at 4:2:2 when using 4K (2160p) resolutions. I'm assuming they mean YCbCr which is the correct digital representation of the color space (YUV is technically analog color space). Most gaming video cards output RGB at 4K ... the can be setup to use YCbCr but the color space is not as good as RGB full and will tend to show a more washed out image with less color information ... does anyone know if BMD will release a Intensity Pro with HDMI 2.0 support?
Asked by: Rob
You are correct. We are using more of a broadcast terminology and bandwidths that cover the analog and digital sources. We are unable to speak of future development.

how to instal in to a lenovo think station xeon 6-cores and this works with avid and premier?
Asked by: rafael r.
Just as long as your computer has a PCI Express port available you will be able to instill this card in to it. It will work with Avid and Premier. The ThinkStation P700, which is a 6-Core Machine, has PCI Expansion capabilities.

Blackmagic Design Intensity pro 4k . I have a question about that card. I have a DVD player and recorder Panasonic DMR-EX 77 which has an HDMI output and when I connect it to the card with an HDMI cable it does not give a picture. I tried the output on the TV and it gives me a picture. Does anyone know what could be. The input on the card is tested with a Sonj 4K camera and gives an image.???

I would check your configuration settings on your software. I’ve found that this is usually the problem.

I know a lot of people will probably think this is going backwards, but if, for just plain nostalgic reasons, you wanted to not only capture from analog SD sources like VHS and output back to VHS, could you do that with this card?
Asked by: Dale
The Intensity Pro 4K from Blackmagic Design comes with a breakout cable allowing for analog connections such as RCA and S-video, which most VHS players output as well. The Intensity Pro has an HDMI port for outputting to other sources, so an HDMI to S-video converter would be needed if the VHS player does not have HDMI as an input.

question

is there a thunderbolt 3 extension chasis for this card or for the sdi version? need for 2 hdmi camera iput to laptop using live stream with tb3 laptop
Asked by: ry
Thunderbolt 3 is still pretty new and at this time we do not have any expansion chasis products that are Thunderbolt 3. However we do have some Thunderbolt 2 options, such as the Sonnet Echo Express SE II, which can handle 2 PCI cards. We also have an adapter that allows you to use Thunderbolt 1 and 2 devices on a computer with a Thunderbolt 3 connection.
