TravelHood

I needed a lens hood for my Nikon 200-400 f4 lens and have been waiting almost 2 months for one to be shipped. I had been interested in the travel hoods to replace my other large hoods while traveling in effort to save space,,, so this was a good opportunity. The hood is compact and stores easily, and fairly easy to put on. The downsides are 1) that because it is collapsible there may be some unintended vignetting, 2) it did not always stay in place and occasionally slid down the lens barrel, and 3) sometimes it can be troublesome to put on properly. Overall, I would purchase this again, because of its compactness and since it is much cheaper than buying a replacement hood. If I did not need to replace the standard hood, I would still purchase the travel hood and use it if space was an issue.

Does what it should

Works well. Its a lot easier to pack and travel with than the Canon hood. A bit of a tight fit on my Canon 500mm f4, but stays on without a problem.

It's okay

It can be a little awkward to put on the first couple of times you try it. It's l3-4 inches onger than the original hood. The ribbed design helps it fold flat, but also prevents it from being completely circular (it's a little lopsided) when installed on my 300mm f2.8. It may be that even the small size is a little too big for the circumference of my lens.

Fits great

For the hood on my 500 f4. I have an older version of this lense and I've lost some of the screws etc that hold it in place. If you have older Nikon equipment you find out Nikon does not keep parts for older equipment in stock. This LensCoat hood is a good replacement. And I might add that I got the usual good service and effiency from B&H !

A better alternative

A better alternative to the bulky standard lens hood in many situations

Overall, I really like the TravelHood. It fits very well on my Nikkor 500mm f/4P and helps cut a bit of weight compared to the original metal hood that came with the lens.I kind of wish it were more rigid, so that I could set the camera down vertically on the hood, but this isnt a huge problem for me.

question

I was told by someone who purchased the small LensCoat travel hood that it was too small and really didn't fit the 500 F4 ll very well. How is the fit and will the next size up fit better?
Asked by: David G.
Unfortunately we cannot measure or test this combination as the Canon 500mm F4 ll lens hood is a Special Order item, and LensCoat does not provide any dimensions for the travel hood. We would recommend you contact LensCoat for recommendations based upon the equipment.

I purchased a Rolanpro product similar to this one and it was too big for my Sigma 150-600 Sport lens. That is why I'm interested in the small size. The velcro strips didn't align with the end of the material and left too much flapping. Will this fit my lens adequately and have sufficient fastening material to keep the final end of the wrap tight?

Anybody use this with a Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8? and how bad is the vignette problem?
Asked by: Thomas J
The LensCoat TravelHood (Small, Black) was made for larger lenses like the Nikon 300mm f2.8 or 200-400mm f4. It would be too big to fit a 70-200mm.
