Carson TD-042EDMO overview

  • 1Description

Carson Optical's mossy oak camo 10x42 TD-042ED 3D-Series Binocular features an array of optical technologies to produce a device that is ideally suited for birding, hunting, or hiking. Its optical performance begins with phase-corrected BAK4 roof prisms to enhance image color fidelity, contrast, and resolution. Next, they employ extra low-dispersion glass that corrects chromatic and spherical aberrations to enhance image clarity, and further increase contrast and color definition. Carson then applies their proprietary HD (high-definition) optical coating to fully multicoat the optical path for improved light transmission which ensures bright, sharp images, especially in low-light conditions.

Rubberized mossy oak camo armor makes this 3D Binocular rugged and shock resistant. Thumb grooves on the under-side of the optical tubes and texture hand-holds make for a pleasant, non-slip, ergonomic grip. The body is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed, making it waterproof and fogproof. The TD-042ED combines twist up eyecups with a long eye relief, resulting in a great combination for long duration observation sessions with or without eye wear.

Note: Warning - The case for this device contains magnets which can interfere with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD's). Individuals with pacemakers or ICD's should NOT use this product.

Carson TD-042EDMO reviews

10x42 3D Series TD-042ED Binocular (Mossy Oak Camo) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Carson 3d ED very good binos. i was wanting to get vortex talon or Nikon monarch7. i have looked through monarch 7 and wanted that super clear glass. After a lot of research i kept reading about these Carson 3d ed. im glad i got them. they have excellent glass. i would say rite up there with the Monarch 7. but half the cost. build quailty is excellent and life time warranty!! the case and back strap are very nice as well. high recommend!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent quality for the price Optics on these binos are pretty good, very sharp & approximately 80% of the field is well focused. Color fringing is an issue (minor annoyance) when viewing high contrast scenes (e.g. a mountain ridge against a bright hazy sky), showing a red or green fringe when you're outside of the center of view. Within the center of view, color fringing is nonexistent. Comparing the Carsons against a pair of Swarovski 10x25 binos, the Swarovski optics were simply amazing with no color fringing evident. Sharpness between the two were similar. However, the Swarovski binos are 3x price of the Carson binos. I'm not sure how the color fringing compares against other binos in this class since my only comparison was with the Swarovskis. There is pincushion distortion, but only noticeable towards the edge of the field. I was nervous that the Carsons didn't have detents on the diopter adjust. However, after using these in the field (unpleasant conditions for the binos), the diopter adjust didn't move at all due to the stiffness and location of the control wheel. I see no need to tape the diopter adjuster like I have with other binos. The build of the Carsons seems to be pretty good. Ergonomics is good and feel natural in my hands. Focus control is smooth, but the direction of the focus wheel is backwards (CW focuses closer) from other binos I have used which is annoying. The case is very well thought out making deployment quick and quiet. My last trip was spent crashing through bushes in wet weather and the case kept the optics dry. The case being attached to the binos is an annoyance in high winds, but that is easily solved by gripping the case with the forearms so it won't flap about. The included chest harness works as expected, however, the clip has a tough clasp spring (a good design since I've had wimpy clasps release unexpectedly). When attaching the clip to the binos, push the clip through the center of the attachment loop, then pull outwards to engage the clasp (you don't need to push on the clasp with your fingers to engage with this technique). See attached image. The adjustable eye relief cups have enough friction to set them midway without changing, handy when you're laying on your belly. In all, I would give these a serious look over the competition. My two weeks in the Arctic (Brooks Range in Alaska) with these binos was a pleasant experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright Bino's ! These are really bright compared to other binoculars (even ED) that I have. Smooth focus, easy diopter adjustment, eyepiece covers actually stay on. Only slight chromatic aberration at the very edge of the view, only noticeable against a light background (the reason for 4 stars). Very good low-light performance at dusk, sharp detail and true color. Purple Martins ARE really purple . Case has cool magnetic closures, but no strap. Just use the strap on the bino's. I only use the case to protect them when they are in the car, not in the field. Overall, a great value in an ED glass bino.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go buy a pair!! They are every bit as nice as expected based on the many reviews i looked at. I looked at the new Nikon Monarch 5 and these are every bit as nice. They really shine at night; looking at stars or big city lights. They also have fantastic clarity and true color resolution. They also come with very nice lens caps now, that say Carson.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These binoculars exceeded my expectations! I really like these binoculars ... the images are very clear, sharp and focusing is real smooth. The camo armor covering looks really cool too. I was a little hesitant at first about buying these but decided to go ahead after reading all the positive reviews. In the end I am glad I did. I am very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 Star Bino's These binoculars are the best value for the money on the market today, hands down. I compared these side by side to a pair of Vortex Razors whish are $1000. There is virtually no difference in the light gathering & quality of the Carson binoculars. I had some of my buddies compare them too & they all came up with the same results. The Razors went back & I kept the Carsons which were about $750.00 cheaper. I already had a pair of Carson 10 x 50's which are also 5 star. So basically 2 pairs of the best binoculars you can own for about $550. It's a no brainer as far as I am concerned & a great warranty to go with them. Do yourself a huge favor & buy a pair of these, you wont be disappointed. B&H is a great company to do business with & these binoculars arrived within 3 days of ordering them. Trust me, trying out different binoculars is a hobby of mine & these Carson's are probably the biggest sleeper on the market today. Heck they even throw in a complete harness to go with them. You cannot beat this deal!!!
