Glidecam GLDGSS Overview

  • 1Description

Supporting cameras between 2 and 12 pounds, the Devin Graham Signature Series Hand-Held Stabilizer from Glidecam combines features of their HD-Series stabilizers with many professional features from more elaborate body-mounted systems to transform your shaky handheld footage into smooth, graceful shots. Its precision camera balance platform incorporates a quick-release, sliding dovetail plate that lets you quickly attach or remove your camera, and features fine-tuning control knobs that enable precision front-to-back and side-to-side adjustments for horizontal balancing. Further aiding balancing is a 1" diameter telescopic center post with laser engraved guide markings and a position-adjustable gimbal for quick vertical balancing. Rounding out the system is the dynamic base platform that supports the included counterweights and can manually expand or contract, allowing you to adjust the system dynamic balance and rotational pan inertia of the system.

    Glidecam GLDGSS Reviews

Devin Graham Signature Series Handheld Stabilizer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs locks for adjustment knobs I have one main issue with this Glidecam: the knobs require adjustment nearly every time I pick it up as the adjustment knobs have no locking mechanism once you've set your settings and balanced the rig. Other issues: -Quick release plate fell apart quickly as rubber stopper kept letting screw fall out. replaced with another quick release plate though and was good to go. -Gimbal section has fallen apart a couple of times, but clicks back into place. needs tightening. -markings are scratched off fairly easily. -otherwise a great tool, indispensible in unpredictable shooting environments where you want to get fluid, cinematic movement and a rig that challenges you to improve and have fun as a filmmaker :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the Extra $ Worth the extra money if you're on a run and gun shoot. You often don't have time to readjust everything when you change a lens. My only beef is that the manfrotto plate that comes with it only fits the slide in manfrotto tripods and not the side click in. This needs to be fixed. The laser engravings are starting to fade though and I've only had it for a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 3rd Glidecam and easily the best I use the Glidecam on fiction and documentary projects. Lately I've had a Sony FS7 and a Sony a7s, with monitor, on the rig. Each set up was stable, easy to balance and I'm getting some wonderful shots. I've always liked this company's products, but they've outdone themselves with this new one. Using it in underslung mode has been a particular treat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was sold when I saw the new adjustment knobs My first Glidecam purchase was the HD 4000 here on B&H 6 years ago. A great tool to have for any DSLR operator. I've been following Devin Graham for some time and knew he was testing a new prototype Glidecam. I purchased the Devin Graham Signature Series right after NAB. I was impressed with it right out of the box. It comes in a traveling case and all the needed slots for everything in the setup. Included in the case was a USB drive with a video by Devin giving a quick tutorial on how to balance the and operate the sled for those who don't know. The new quick release plate included also fits the Manfrotto heads. By far my favorite feature is the new adjustment knobs. The fact that you no longer have to loosen the 4 knobs just to adjust the level like you have to do on the HD 4000 is already a TREMENDOUS advantage. The weather tight gimbal is also a plus, knowing that it will hold up in the toughest conditions. We own a Movi in our studio, but I find myself coming back to the Glidecam time and time again for the sheer fact that it doesn't run on batteries. In the heat of the battle you need something that can take a beating and won't die on you during the most important shot of your career.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the best solution for large cameras I have used steadicam systems before, I tried the ifootage wildcat with my 5d and also glidecam hd1000 but they never could be properly dynamically balance so they produce wobbly result but this one is different I use with my canon c200 and it balanced within 4 minutes and works extremely smoothly even without a lot of practice But only complain is weight, the whole system is too heavy for a 15 years old to handle all day so i bought the additional foamarm brace (highly recommended) which made my wrist less swore, an arm and vest would be recommended If you have a cinema camera and not favour gimbals go for this one, you will have no regrets

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Devin Graham Stabilizer I would definitely repeat other contributors here saying that this is an amazing product m well built and so on and so forth. It’s definitely should not cost as much money but there is nothing else in the market like this (quality, easy to use wise) so Glidecam takes advantage of its monopoly. However, the most important part is to practice, practice, practice. The stabilizer won’t delivery stunning results by itself. This is still the cheapest solution among the army of gimbals and other stabilizes of all sorts. The best thing about this product it’s mechanical, therefore won’t ever let you down if you know what you are doing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product, Bad life expectancy I've used this product heavily over the last two years. About 6 months ago I have been having problems with the gimbal section. I've tried tightening the screws but it keeps popping. I've noticed since this has happened the fluidity of my shots suffers because of the gimbal section. Other than that the product has performed wonderfully. Speaking with Glidecam about this issue since when calling I've found I'm not the only one with this issue, It appears to be a recall on some of the gimbals.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic So, I own a Glidecam 4000pro. It is old I mean HVX200 first generation old Final the top plate bent and gave me an incentive to purchase a replacement. My first choice was a 3-axis gimbal. They were cool. Clients think they are big budget production etc. So, I tested few and found them very heavy. I scaled down to Panasonic GH4s, why scale up on stabilizers. During heavy production season my anticipated 3-axis mini gimbal was still pre-order status. I complained on social media and someone sent me the video of this product. I love my Glidecam.. I already have the vest and the arm.. so it made sense to upgrade to a lighter better glidecam. Price was right and the product looked promising. Once it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised with the case it came. It is light, but sturdy. The installation was easy. In less than 10 minutes I was flying with the glider. Balancing is extremely easy. The moving handle is brilliant. Glider needs practice to achieve smooth movements. This is still an operator-controlled device. If you are not good at glidecam, no worries.. it comes with instructional video. Here are some of the things I like: moving handle. Quick release plate. Quick adjustment knobs. Light weight. Quality built. Stuff that I didn't like: Top plate does not move left to right far enough. My wireless is too heavy to be attached. 12lbs limit the markings on the shaft are already coming off not good. Overall: this is a fantastic device. Fits into Glidecam arm and vest systems but it is so light that I did not use them.. I highly recommend this stabilizer.
