Tamrac Anvil 23 Reviews

uncomfortable for a woman's body

I had to replace my old backpack which was a tarmac as well. How I loved that bag! I had two of them over the years and the last one just finally gave out in several places, so I had to get a new bag. While I was able to fit all of my gear into this one and the smaller pockets are holding all of the little times one needs as a professional photographer, the straps are way too wide for a woman's body and hit the chest area in the most unfortunate places. I just wish that this tarmac had been designed with the same straps as my old tarmac had, just a bit more narrow without the bulge out into the chest area. It would be nice if tarmac designed with females in mind as well.

Should have known better...

Purchased this backpack on 08-18-22. Negative reviews mentioned that the plastic accessory liners had gone bad. Since they were older reviews, I unwittingly assumed that Tamrac would have fixed the issue by then, and B&H wouldn't continue to sell this backpack if the problems had not been resolved. Wow, was I wrong. Just in case there were issues, I decided to load up the backpack and use it at least once before my return window closed. No issues. After my return window closed, however, I loaded up the backpack again for a trip. After arriving at our destination, I couldn't believe it. All three of the inner plastic storage pouches disintegrated! My batteries were bouncing around on my camera and I xtra lenses. Not like the pouches were overloaded either as I intentionally only put one extra battery in each pouch. In other words, I incorrectly assumed user error, or even abuse, on the negative reviews. Not sure how Tamrac or B&H can continue to sell this product in good conscience. Stay away!

what is the difference between the Tamarac anvil 23 and 27?
Asked by: David
The 27 is larger than the 23. I have the 23 and I carry two camera bodies with lenses attached, four additional lenses, rain covers, carry straps, filters, battery chargers, lens tissues, AA batteries, spare camera batteries and some other stuff.

Is the padded hip belt removable?
Asked by: Kenneth
Yes, it is removable. I was all ready to reply with a "no" but decided to check the pack before responding. I discover that the belt slips through a padded sleeve at the bottom of the back, making it not only removable but also making it comfortable to wear. I really like this comprehensive, versatile, comfortable camera bag.

question

Is there enough space for a canon 400mm lens with hood and canon 5D Mark iii dslr body?
Asked by: Scott
There should be. The caveat would be 'What additional gear is being carried?' The dividers are Velcro and can be adjusted; however, if significant other gear is being carried, there may be some difficulty and with the camera and lens (total cost) how much risk is one willing to assume.

question

Is this camera deep enough to hold a Canon 1DX?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, the Anvil 17, 23, and 27 were all designed around the Canon 1DX and it fits perfectly in these bags.
