Libec ALX S8 overview

  • 1Description

The Libec ALX S8 is a 32.6" long camera slider that features an integrated 75mm ball base with a flat bottom, allowing it to be mounted directly to 75mm bowl fluid heads as well as flat-base heads. When used on tabletop or flat surface using, the slider has a maximum load capacity of 33 lb. For smooth and wobble-free operation, the carriage features eight roller bearings positioned on the rail top and along the sides at angles. A spring-loaded friction knob allows you to adjust slide tension, while a brake knob will lock the carriage in place at any point on the rails. Using a supplied hexagon wrench, you can adjust the pushing force that the ball bearing exerts on the rail.

At each end of the slider, there are 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads and a rosette for attaching various accessories. If you will be using the slider on the ground or tabletop, the slider features built-in legs with height-adjustable feet to accommodate non-level terrain. For compact storage, the legs fold up against the side of the slider, securing in place using thumb knobs. Unscrewing the knobs completely allows you to detach the legs completely and swap out the 32.6" rail for separately available 15.5" or 47" rail lengths.

    Libec ALX S8 reviews

    ALX S8 Slider (32.6") is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Slider My first slider, so I cant compare to others. But this one is well built, and well thought out. Great control over slide resistance, and can take a bit of weight without really bending. Perhaps a slight bit of leaning if you don't have it on a hefty set of legs. The bowl mount is great, and the bowl comes off so you can mount to a flat base. Any flat base head works. But you cant mount a bowl head that has it's screw attached. To get around this problem I have the Manfrotto 325N bowl adapter, and this works great. I can bring one bowl tripod, take off the head, mount the slider, mount the adapter, mount the head, and slide away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What A Value! This is incredible. I already had sticks and head so I didn't get the whole ALLEX kit, but man am I happy with this. This is hands down the BEST slider in its price range. It is very smooth, very balanced, and has great adjustability for resistance. Fits on any tripod and even comes with a bowl head adapter. Oh, and it holds well over 30lbs so you don't have to really worry about what kind of rig you're mounting on it. Unbelievable purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I hate this slider If you're doing a low budget shoot this slider is okay as long as you have B-roll to work with in the edit. No matter how much I clean/lubricate the slider - it's still bumpy on the move and is in no way ideal for panning while sliding. Would not recommend this if you're video is all interview on this slider with no b-roll.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I've had this slider for 2 years now and I love it. The adjustable leg levels make it easy to balance on any outdoor surface. The knob that allows you to adjust friction works like a charm; also, love that there's a separate latch to lock it in place.
