Vivitar VIV52W Reviews

Definitely does the job

Put this on my 50mm and it definitely gives me a bit more space in my portraits.  Only complaint is the glass on the front of the lens seems to have hair line scratches on it. They dont show up in the photos but I can see them when I go to clean the lens. Might try to exchange it for one with a smoother glass. Other than the scratches its great!

Don't expect much for $15.

This does not enhance the wide angle very much. Although a little for $15 I guess you can't expect much.

Unbiased Review Vivitar .43 Wide Angle Attachment lens

I just tested this indoors on a Nikon DSLR. The results were almost as expected. This type merely screws on the filter ring like any other SLR or DSLR filter which is really nice. Besides retaining the quality of my primary lens, it doesn't take up much space or add much weight to my bag. Other filters can be used in conjunction with it. The field of view was a great improvement w/out much distortion as a fish-eye. The overall quality is respectable. My only gripe is that the corners of the frame are dark as if looking through a round hole. Hence the only 4 star rating. This could be from shooting indoors with low light. I haven't tested it outdoors or with studio lighting yet. Overall, not bad considering it costs about the same as a burger & fries. It came with protective caps on both ends and a drawstring pouch to store it. I'm certain there will be times when it will come in quite handy. B&H was quick to ship and everything was well packed. But I expected quality service which is the main reason I keep coming back.

Good, and bad

I wish, I could give it multiple reviews at the same time. What I mean is that it is great wide angle lens if you are going to shoot something that is standing still. However, if you are going to video tape something like a soccer game like I did. It does not do well with action shots. I had streaking of colors in the video. It was choppy. I took it off to videotape another game and it was fine. So it was wide angle lens. I give it a 4 for being great at just being a wide angle lens. 2 for being terrible at action videos. So in the middle with a three.

Marginal Performance from an Economy Lens

Understanding that a 0.43X provides very little change to your view, the Vivitar wide angle attachment delivers as promised. Linearity isn't the best, with slightly curved peripheral lines, yet not a fisheye view. The very best use of this is the remarkable macro focus capabilities, which let you move extremely close to your subject and maintain sharp focus. Physically, the lens assembly seems solid with a good build. Lenses also appear to be multicoated.

Bien para el precio, a mucha apertura se distorsiona. Slo para usar en f3 o f2.8 como mnimo.

For its price it is worth it, it can not be compared to a pro but solves it.

will it fit a canon vixia hf r800 camcorder?
Asked by: natasya
As the Canon VIXIA HF R800 Camcorder uses 43mm filter threads and the Vivitar 52mm 0.43x Wide Angle Attachment Lens uses 52mm filter threads, the items cannot be directly connected to one another. You would need to purchase the Sensei PRO 43-52mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring, B&H # SESURPA4352, to connect the Vivitar 52mm 0.43x Wide Angle Attachment Lens to the Canon VIXIA HF R800 Camcorder. Otherwise, you may purchase a wide angle adapter designed specifically for the 43mm filter thread, such as the Pearstone DVP-WA07-43 0.7x Wide Angle Lens Attachment, B&H # PEDVPWA0743. It is not as wide as the previous Vivitar wide angle adapter, but it would not require the use of a step-up ring for attachment to your camcorder.

I'm using a MagFilter adapter. Will this be too heavy to stay on there? I don't see what the actual lens weight is anywhere - just the package weight.
Asked by: Brian
It is approximately 6.16 oz. The Magmod adapter is made to support filters not add on lenses. Magmod does not list the support weight. So there is a good chance it might come off because of the weight.
