FotodioX FD-EOSM-PRO Overview

The Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Canon FD-Mount Lens to Canon EF-M Mount Camera from FotodioX allows a Canon FD-mount lens to be used with a Canon EF-M mount camera. It is designed to support focusing to infinity, and is constructed from brass and an aluminum alloy along with a stainless-steel lens mounting ring to provide a durable, yet lightweight camera-to-lens connection.

This adapter does not support electronic communication between an attached camera and lens. To control the amount of light that enters a Canon EF-M mount camera when using this adapter and a Canon FD-mount lens, an aperture-control ring is built into the Pro Lens Mount Adapter. This control ring couples with the lens's aperture mechanism so that adjustments to brightness as well as depth-of-field can be made.

To help prevent stress on the camera mount if the supported camera and lens combination is to be placed on a tripod, the Pro Lens Mount Adapter includes a detachable tripod foot. It features 1/4"-20 threads as well as Arca-type compatibility.

  • Allows a Canon FD-mount lens to be used with a Canon EF-M mount camera
  • Attached lens can focus to infinity
  • Brass and aluminum-alloy construction with stainless-steel lens mounting ring for durability
  • Integrated control ring allows adjustment of lens aperture
  • •Detachable, Arca-type compatible tripod foot with 1/4"-20 threads

FotodioX FD-EOSM-PRO Reviews

Fits great & works like a charm

The adapter fit my EOS M200 with no problems, and handles my old Canon, Kalimar and Tonica lenses without a hitch. Focal points with each lens seem to be comparable.

Well, mixed feelings ...

I decided to get a Canon EOS M5 and as I have from my starting photography era some FD lenses I opted to buy this adapter from FD to EF-M mount. The first impression was good. Now that I have used it my mixed feelings went to more or less not so satisfied feelings. The fit is OK on both sides but a big problem is that flimsy tripod adapter. Apart from the fact that if you take it off it is difficult to put it on again as the screw starts to get tight before the tripod adapter is tight on the ring. Also the orientation of the tripod adapter is NOT paralel to the camera eg. If I level the tripod the camer is tilted about 3 degrees to the left ... I am astonished that nowadays with the machining tolos exist such a thing can happen. I therefore hardly can recommend this adapter. I do not know if there is another brand for mopunting FD to EF-M mount. All in all using it without tripod adapter is more or less ok, with the tripod it is a nuisance.

Does the job it was designed to do very well

The FotodioX Pro lens mount adapter for Canon FD to Canon EF-M is well made, fits tightly to the EOS M5 camera, and performs the task it was designed to do. I have 10 Canon FD SSC lenses from 17mm to 400mm purchased in the 1970s and 1980s, including two zooms. All have been easy to use with manual focus (using the M5's focusing aids) and manual aperture stop down (with the camera in Av mode). Some of the lens breech mounts are a bit loose from many years of use, but even these had acceptable results when held firmly against the adapter (I will have to tighten the lens mounts). The rest of the lenses fit tightly to the adapter. All in all, a very worthwhile purchase that allows me to use all my old lenses on my new M5 body.

Bringing back life to my old FD lens collection

This adapter took a few minutes to figure out, since the M5 didn't want to take a photo at first with the adapter hooked up. So I dug around in the settings and figured out how to use this adapter with the M5, and it brings back memories of using the old FD manual focus lenses, but on a new-age camera body.

A bit more expensive but clearly better.

I use this adapter for mounting a variety of old school Canon lenses on my EOS-M camera. (This is the first model, so not the M2, M3 etc. ) I have used the cheap chinese models available elsewhere. I have some larger lenses and want to mount the whole thing on a tripod. This mount has a nice sturdy support. Although the other adapters do come with a mount, it is small, flimsy and the one I got was not even mounted on straight. This bracket is also made in China, but well made. The lens fits on it nice and tight. And the mechanism op open the aperture is very smooth. Is t worth the extra money. Well, compared to the other mounts the price is indeed very steep. It would be 5 start if the price was more in balance.

Good but not great

The build quality is ok, a bit unprecise though, and the symbols for mounting position and aperture control does not match the movement of the collar. Anyways, 49 dollars for being able to use fd-lenses on my EOS M6 is fine. I would recommend it to someone who is into fd and vintage lenses and owns an EOS M-series body.

Works well

Works well. Mine fits nicely. 4 stars just because the ring you turn to 'set' the lens aperture is a little less than 100% solid, but it is in line with the price. Note the way the aperture setting ring works is you have an open position when you mount the lens, with the lens set at whatever aperture you want. This allows you to focus etc.. wide open. Then you move the ring and the lens is stopped down to your lens setting.

Asked by: Rafael
Nope. You'll need an adapter that is EF, not EF-M. EF is larger than the EF-M mount. In order to mount an FD lens to the 6k camera, you'll need an FD-EF adapter.

question

Hi Everyone. Hyperfocal Distance??? I know the M series is a 1.6 crop, so if I use an EF 35mm 1.4 lens on this adapter, do I simply plug in 35mm @1.4 on M camera in hyperlocal calculator or do I convert it first to 56mm, then plug in @1.4 on M in the hyperlfocal calculator? Thanks friends!
Asked by: Henry
No; base the calculations off of the lens. The lens does not change depending on the camera to which it is mounted. The only thing the camera's sensor changes is the field of view as seen by the image circle. And remember, field of view (FOV) is NOT the same as depth of field (DOF).

Won't using this mount cause a further reduction ...

Won't using this mount cause a further reduction in field of view than that of the conversion from 35mm to APS-C? If so, what is the combined conversion factor when using this mount? (34mm - APS-C plus the factor caused by the mount.)
Asked by: David
There is no further reduction in the field of view other than a 1.6x crop factor, being that a Canon FD lens would be considered full frame and a Canon EF-M mirrorless camera is APS-C.

Does the B&H deliver to Russia? If so, then how is it done?

You may calculate your actual shipping options/order totals by adding the items you want to a shopping cart. It will then list the shipping options, descriptions, ETA's and fees to your location.

question

Mounted a Canon FD lens to my M5 using this adapter. Why can't I magnify to check focus before I shoot? Am i doing something wrong? Or can you not magnify at all using FD lenses before shooting? thanks for any help!
Asked by: Henry
As the previous person mentioned, you need to grant permission to the camera to take photos without a lens considering that both the adapter and an FD lens wouldn't be sending electrical signals to your camera and, thus, the camera don't recognize the pair as an actual lens. That same thing will happen with pretty much any manual focus-only lens adaptation that you do to these newer cameras. Good luck.
