So close... yet so far

Solid build quality with a permanent DC cable to the camera, double p-taps, and three solid connection points to the camera body (the competitors only have one). Seems too good to be true... aaand it is. The plate is designed to attach like the Sony XDCA module. However, somewhere along the design phase, the engineers at Core mismeasured the FS7's connection points and the plate doesn't fit the way it should. When connected, there's a 1/2" gap between the camera and the top plate of the mount. That means your camera's XDCA electronic connections are exposed. And if you're OCD like me, well, it'll be all you can think about. A B&H tech was awesome enough to work through it with me. After some research, we found other complaints and considered it a design flaw. Core's technical support has not returned my email. Trying to decide whether to return it or have a friend grind and re-weld the brackets.

Best choice for adding V-mounts to your Fs7

Very easy to install. Simply to use. Added two D-tap outlets for using accessories.

We're afraid not. This mount directly on to the back of the Sony FS7 and it not compatible with the FS5.

question

What does unregulated power outputs mean on this item and is there a risk they could short circuit my camera or connected accessories?
Asked by: Scott C.
The Sony FS7 can work safely with V mount and gold mount batteries which are nominally rated for 14.4VDC. Nominally in reality means the voltage varies from 14.4VDC. However, no worries on this plate for the voltage from the battery to the camera is regulated to a 11VDC to 17 VDC range and the camera self regulates to these same voltage numbers. Very commonly like here however, the D taps voltage is straight out whatever the battery is outputting with no regulation. If you use it on a light, there is no danger, the light will just dim and go out. If the device is complicated computer circuitry, I would not hook it up unless it had its own internal voltage regulation.

Can you use multiple outputs simultaneously or ...

Can you use multiple outputs simultaneously or just one at a time? I want to power my Sony FS7 and a monitor with just one v-mount battery.
Asked by: Jean-Sébastien
Yes this will supply power to multiple units.

question

Does this unit actually power the camera and how is that connection made?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes it powers the camera through a small cable that connects to the DC in port in the back of the camera. You can still have a small sony battery in the camera so it actually becomes hot swappable :)

question

Does this come with the 2 top mounting screws?
Asked by: Josh R.
Yes, but it doesn't sit flush and the inside connector that connects to extension unit is exposed to the elements. It works but needs to be redesigned.
