question

Is the 501 monitor compatible with the Nikon D850. I've been trying to use my 501 on a D850, and the monitor just shows No Signal. Anyone have success using this monitor on the Nikon D850?
Asked by: Chris G.
The D850 and the 501 should work well together. The first thing I would check is that your D850 is outputting an HD Signal though. The D850 can output UHD 4K through HDMI, which the 501 will not see. You should be able to set the HDMI out to be HD only even when recording 4K internally. If you have additional issues feel free to message us at [email protected].

question

Do all 501/502 units have rubberized frame? My unit was returned from repair without it and it seems less rugged, does it matter?
Asked by: Brad D.
If you got it back with changes, then you should contact whoever repaired it for you. You should've gotten it back the same way you sent it in.

Yes it is. The SmallHD 500 and 700 series monitors feature a library of Reverse LOG LUTs. There is a Canon C Log to Rec709 LUT included starting with Firmware Version 2.2 for this monitor.

question

Are there additional accessories required to operate this monitor with the Canon 5d mark iii?
Asked by: Anna K.
To use the SmallHD 501 with a 5D Mark III you will need some additional accessories. First you will need a Mini-HDMI to HDMI cable to connect the camera to the monitor. You'll also need a mount, such as the Hot Shoe Ball Mount, to put it on top of your camera. The 501HD actually uses the same LP-E6 style batteries as the 5D Mark III. If you already have a few batteries for that camera you may not need to buy any additional ones.
