Sirui SUW2004 overview

  • 1Description

The W-2004 Waterproof Aluminum Alloy Tripod from Sirui features a Waterproof Sealing System that prevents water, dust, or other particles from entering the leg tubes. The tripod extends to a maximum height of 70.9", holds up to 39.7 lb, and weighs 4.6 lb. Reverse-folding legs wrap around most ball heads allowing the tripod to fold down to 20.5".

The 4-section legs are individually adjustable and are held in place with twist locks. One of the legs is removable and can be attached to the center column to make a full-sized 69.7" monopod. The removable rubber feet can be replaced by stainless-steel spikes, affording the tripod stability on a variety of surfaces. The split center column allows the tripod to reach its minimum height of 6.1", and a ballast hook on the center column can hold a stabilizing weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Waterproof tripod I like the W-2004 for occasional water use. I first purchased the W-1004, thinking it would be sturdy enough for my needs. It wasn't. I returned it an bought the W-2004. If you use any lens that mounts directly to the tripod head, go with this heavier tripod. I usually use one of several Gitzo tripods that I own. All of them are sturdier than the Sirui, but they are not designed to be used in water. I like that the Sirui will convert to a monopod when I need that. This tripod was a good addition for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to my gear Although I've only been using this now for a couple of weeks, it's all been great. I've used several different types of tripods in the past, none have been the type without a head unit. This is my first one that allows me the option of using a head unit; I'm using a Ball Head. This tripod is sturdy and easy to use. The legs extend and retract swiftly with a slight turn of the ratchets. The mobility of the legs and how you can position the tripod comes very easy. I've used it both standing up and laying flat on the ground. I love the functionality and how easy it is the move things around. I also like the ability to store it with my ball head and the legs wrapped around that. Being able to move the legs 180 degrees in direction is great, plus the leg ratchet that locks the legs in place is very user friendly, it allows one to position the legs with one hand. I love the ability to turn this into a Mono-pod and the fact that it's waterproof. With the inclusion of the steel spikes, it makes this tripod a very sturdy platform for all kinds of terrain. I am very tall and like the fact that this tripod extends above my 6'3 frame to be able to shoot down on subjects from my height. I also love the quick unscrewing center column (which has a hook to hold ballast) from the unit and go to a mere inch or so from the ground. Overall, this is a great product and I am very satisfied with it coming from never using this type of tripod before.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice working height. I am over 6 feet tall and have a difficult time stooping down to use a typical tripod. I enjoy nature, scenery and night sky photography. The extended height of this tripod has and will provide me with comfortable working usage. With a gimbal I can actually shoot nearly straight up without getting myself into an uncomfortable position using my veiwfinder. It is also sturdy enough that I can trust my 600mm lens and full size camera atop of it even on windy days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing quality and value! I own two other tripods and a monopod and was very disappointed to find that none of the would support my new lens. I researched high and low for a tripod and a monopod that would handle the weight and height requirements. The W-2004 did both while saving me hundreds of dollars! I love the quality and would rate it all at an A+!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No In Water Use...Yet So far, i'd rate this tripod as excellent. I cycled through several Sirui's including a few other brands while waiting on this one to come. Ultimately, I kept this one based on duty rating. it's heavy, but it's also not my hiker tripod. Seems very well made, locks are smooth, and very stable, especially with the bag hanging from the center column.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tripod is better than expected The Sirui W-2004, waterproof, aluminum alloy tripod is of better quality & functions than I expected it to be, I attached a Sirui K-IOX ball head onto this w-2004 tripod. Along with using a Nikon D300S camera & multiple Nikon lens. No creeping & adjustments are made quickly & easily. The tool kit & accessories that were included are also of good quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the waterproof feature, otherwise subpar I use this tripod almost exclusively for video and photos at the beach and around other harsh environments. I was hoping to use it for my architectural photography business, but it's not sturdy enough for that. The whole tripod feels rather flimsy for the price and size. I can't compare it to the standard Manfrotto tripods since I don't have those, but I can compare it to the Benro A3580F Classic Tripod, which is cheaper and much sturdier. That said, the Sirui is stable enough for most of my work, just not where I absolutely need the tripod to stay in the exact same place (generally when I'm compositing architectural images and take the same photo many times in succession). I can also compare it to the MeFoto RoadTrip travel tripod, which sacrifices some rigidity for the sake of portability. The MeFoto is at least as stable as this Sirui, if not more so. Pros: * It's waterproof! And seems to work well so far in this regard; I just rinse it off after coming back from the beach. * Comes with lots of spare parts for components you're most likely to lose Cons: * Not very sturdy given its weight, size, and price; however, it does just fine for most of my purposes, but not where I need the tripod to be extremely stable * Overall fit and finish feels a bit sloppy, at least compared to my (cheaper) Benro * The case is nice, but only large enough for the tripod itself, without attaching a head, so that makes it almost useless for me Overall, don't hesitate to buy this if you regularly need a waterproof tripod. But if you don't really need that feature, there are much better and cheaper options.
