Sirui W2204 Overview

The W-2204 Waterproof Carbon Fiber Tripod from Sirui features a Waterproof Sealing System that prevents water, dust, or other particles from entering the leg tubes. The tripod extends to a maximum height of 70.9", holds up to 39.7 lb, and weighs 3.7 lb. Reverse-folding legs wrap around most ball heads allowing the tripod to fold down to 20.5".

The 4-section legs are individually adjustable and are held in place with twist locks. One of the legs is removable and can be attached to the center column to make a full-sized 69.7" monopod. The removable rubber feet can be replaced by stainless-steel spikes, affording the tripod stability on a variety of surfaces. The split center column allows the tripod to reach its minimum height of 6.1", and a ballast hook on the center column can hold a stabilizing weight.

Very sturdy, high quality materials

Great value for money, only a couple compromises.

I bought these legs a few years back for $329..... and there is a lot to love. Key things I like: 1. Size - there are a few things I love about the size of this tripod. Firstly without raising the center column it is eye level (and I am 6'1), but folds dow inverted to a size that just fits in a carry-on for a plane. The only time I raise the center column is when I am shooting on snow, with the tripod down a hill, or in a river. It also has just 3 twist knobs - which is nicer than having 4. 2. Weight - for the size the weight is pretty good. I think the specified weight includes the spiked feet, accessories and bag. Including my head I think the weight is a little over 4.5lbs. 3. Stability - this holds my camera with my heaviest lens setup very easily (about 4.5 lbs). But is definitely stable enough to hold the biggest setup I can imagine that I will buy (about 8 lbs). 4. Price - Even at the updated price - it is about 1/3 of the price of the premium tripod brands that reach this height. Obviously there are a couple of compromises: 1. It is a bit bigger and heavier than you want it to be (I think most people would be happier with a bit lighter, less bulky setup that is 3 or 3.5lbs and just live with raising the center column). Personally though - if I am going to carry a tripod - I want it to be big enough, and stable enough for any situation I will be in (I have a smaller tripod that I used to carry when hiking longer distances... but then I got shots that were blurry even with a 10 second timer because it was not stable enough). 2. Its not as well built as more expensive tripods. Where the legs meet is not as strong as RRS or Gitzo. The gear hang for the shorter center column did just snap (the plastic stopper bit) and I have heard the legs are not quite as waterproof as you may want. Again though this is a compromise. Do you want it to be heavier or more expensive? BUT all that being said... and this seems to be true for all the Sirui products... it's just great value for money. Just be conscious of what compromises you are making

update after 1 year of use

After 1 year it works very well. I have not experienced any of the problems that have users have reported and I have not been particularly gently. About the waterproof, you need to keep the OR clean and grease them with silicon grease if you want it to stay waterproof (that is not explained very clearly in the manual but being a scuba diver I'm used to deal with OR).

Major flaw

I have used this tripod professionally for over a year and have been generally happy with it. However the center post should be one piece as one of the rivets has loosened and there is a certain amount of flex when using it with the post extended. In addition the rivet on the top of the joint completely loosened to the point that it was sticking out about 1/16 of an inch which prevented me from lowering the post completely. I took a punch and pounded it together so that it is now flat and I can raise and lower the post. Cannot understand why they did not make this one piece and had I known that I would not have purchased this model

No longer waterproof after two years light use.

This has been used in lakes and bayous for almost two years, about 50 times per year, and never past the second joint. The last few times water poured out when I collapsed it or set it down on its side. The entire reason for buying this tripod was because it was supposed to be waterproof. Other than that I have been happy with the tripod.

Great tripod

I’ve been on a roll buying tripods and related accessories for the last year. This is in support of my 3LT Leo, which, while it has a higher capacity, seems less sturdy than this one. One thing I’ve done is bought Manfrotto 625 adapters for my tripods and heads. My only complaint is I wish the bag was a little larger to allow me to store the tripod with the adapter installed...still a winner.

Excellent Sturdy Tripod

This is a great sturdy tripod. I used it the other day for moon alignment shot. I had a Nikon D7200, Tamron 70-200mm lens and a Manfrotto ballhead on top, and this thing did not budge one bit. Also loved that that there is marking on the bottom legs so I know how high I can adjust according to my height.

Great tripod - tall and sturdy exceeded expectations

This tripod has been great so far. I'm 6'2 and this tripod easily gets my camera rig over my head without sacrificing sturdiness. Lightweight CF is a huge improvement over my prior, cheaper quality budget tripod. I combined with a Sirui 40x ball head and can hold anything without shake or wobble.
