Sirui SUW2204 overview

  • 1Description

The W-2204 Waterproof Carbon Fiber Tripod from Sirui features a Waterproof Sealing System that prevents water, dust, or other particles from entering the leg tubes. The tripod extends to a maximum height of 70.9", holds up to 39.7 lb, and weighs 3.7 lb. Reverse-folding legs wrap around most ball heads allowing the tripod to fold down to 20.5".

The 4-section legs are individually adjustable and are held in place with twist locks. One of the legs is removable and can be attached to the center column to make a full-sized 69.7" monopod. The removable rubber feet can be replaced by stainless-steel spikes, affording the tripod stability on a variety of surfaces. The split center column allows the tripod to reach its minimum height of 6.1", and a ballast hook on the center column can hold a stabilizing weight.

    Sirui SUW2204 reviews

W-2204 Waterproof Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tripod I am a coastal fine art photographer. I create much of my art standing on the beach,on surf's edge, or in the water. This tripod claims to embrace sand & surf while protecting legs & leg tubes from water, sand, dust, etc. So far it has done just that! I was impressed right from opening the package. Included accessories all fit in internal pocket of the case, and its all a breeze to carry everywhere due to lightweight. I use a Induro BHL-1 ball head on it. Thanks to B&H salespeople for their alweays great advice prior to purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod with excellent features I have only had this for a short while, but put it through its paces under some fairly harsh conditions, and the tripod passed with flying colors. Construction is excellent for the price, terrific adjustability, and so far the waterproof claim seems to be holding up. When I first received the unit I worried a little about how steady it would be as I'm used to larger legged aluminum tripods. I need not have worried. I may need a weighted bag on that hook more often in windy conditions, but it is just as supportive as my last tripod, and certainly damps vibrations quicker. A fantastic unit for the price, and I have to admit to wondering why these tripods with their feature set aren't more popular.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good tripod which last for few weeks... I bought two of such tripod over 2 years and here what I learned: Good - Well, it is light carbon fiber tripod. You will pay above $1000 for similar RRS tripod. Bad - Both of my tripod developed exactly the same problem. They lost stopper for one leg which makes them completely dysfunctional. One develop this in couple of weeks after I purchased it and took to my trip to Norway. Second one which I was protecting and keeping in bag most of the time survived entire year. Worse - Despite promised 6 years warranty Sirui USA refused to repair this. They told me "This is normal tear and wear". So, ... if you are buying the tripod for couple of weeks and expect such tear and wear it is your choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Initial Impressions I have only had the tripod for two weeks and used it once to do some nature photography up to my knees in salt water at Bald Point State Park, Florida. First impressions: Feels much lighter to schlep around with a camera body attached than my aluminum Sirui tripod but there is only 1.3 pounds of difference. Very compact when folded and legs reversed. Not sure yet whether I like the locked angle of the legs for normal shooting which do not angle out quite as far as my aluminum tripod. Not sure it will be quite as stable on a hard surface but it was very stable in soft sand. The salt water-proof legs segment connectors seem to have done as advertised. Just rinsed well with fresh water and wiped down all leg segments with a dry cloth when I got home. It does take some effort to break the initial lock on the leg segment connectors when adjusting the length of the leg segments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect size for me. In order to get a decent weight size and weight for travel I ordered the Sirui W-2204, and let me tell you, it's the perfect tripod for what I use it for. I usually place on it a 10 lbs lens with a 4 lbs Gimball head and it cradles it very nicely. The height is perfect for me (6 ft) and with the head on I have to shorten the legs a bit. I am a happy camper...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tripod After a very long search to find a great tripod, I ended up with Sirui w 2204 , a heavy duty tripod but light weight . Combined with Sirui K 40X ball head and Sirui L plate it performed like a beast ! If you do not intend to use it in mud and water you may not need the waterproof version , Sirui N2204, and M3204x offer same amount of stability and features. I read few reviews and comparison to Gitzo and yes, it beat Gitzo for the value of money. I believe Gitzo 3series and systematic models are still ahead of Sirui , but for this price it beat all the other tripods in the Gitzo series. Add few bugs more and get a Sirui k40 X ball head . The combination will be a beast ! I cannot comment on it's durability as I haven't owned it long enough. But it looks and feel like any other superior brands in the Market. I see no reason to go for brands like Gitzo or RRS unless you are shooting regularly with very heavy super telephoto lenses. Thank you B&H for super fast Delivery to Canada.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great tripod at a great price Have only had this tripod for a couple of weeks and really love it. It is very sturdy though lightweight and is well made. The legs extend and lock/unlock easily. The center column is removable which allows for the tripod to be deployed close to the ground if needed. Without the center column extended the height is very comfortable for my use at 6' tall. Comes with a good carry bag. So far, I'm delighted with this purchase and highly recommend it, especially at the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Alternative to the higher priced Tripods I have been using this tripod for a little over a month now. Taking it with me on a recent trip to Japan, I can say that I am extremly impressed so far. This tripod is lighter than my last travel tripod and it is able to set up much taller and is much more sturdy. I also like that I can remove the centre column to get very low. I paired it with the Sirui K-30x ballhead and I am extremely satisfied with both. I had been considering more expensive alternatives from both RRS and Gitzo, and I am so happy that I chose to save the money on this tripod, I don't feel like I am missing out on anything. All the legs adjust very smoothly and I love being able to use one of the legs as a monopod in a pinch. The included spikes are an added bonus. All in all this tripod is a great value for the money!
