FEISOL VH-60HA KIT Reviews
A solid option for a horizontal arm
I was looking for an arm that would allow me to do macro photography in places like a garden or where space was tight. I looked at this arm as well as Leofoto's HC-32. I wanted an arm that would hold a full-size DSLR and lens like Nikon's 105mm VR Macro. I also looked at a Vanguard tripod, but the Feisol is the arm that I kept. It is quite massive, stiff and heavy, and in this case, I find those to be good qualities for the task at hand. All of the controls allow a bit of friction control so you can easily loosen then just enough to allow you to make small movements, especially on the controls that raise and lower the arm. I am using this atop a set of Gitzo 3541LS legs, and pairs up well. I have mounted a Markins Q20 ballhead on the arm and plan to use a Nisi macro rail. It is best to use a counterweight, but in a pinch it can be used without one if you do not extend the arm fully, keep a tripod leg under the camera, and keep the legs open as wide as you can. There are not a lot of choices for arms like this, and while this is among the more expensive options, it is the sturdiest and the one I would trust with a full compliment of gear.
Good Studio Product
I'm using it with a 4' square light tent for product shots. It's well built, good rotating base and the post clamp works just fine. I have another horozontal arm for outdoor use that's much lighter. kbs
