Manfrotto BHQ2 overview

  • 1Description

This XPRO Magnesium Ball Head from Manfrotto features an integrated Arca-type clamp and a MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate. Arca-type compatible quick release plates such as the MSQ6PL can be attached or removed from the Arca-type clamp located at the top of the ball-and-socket joint by tightening or loosening the clamp's locking knob. Within the recessed surface between the clamp's jaws is a retaining pin. This pin prevents an installed quick release plate from accidentally sliding off when the clamp is opened.

The XPRO Magnesium Ball Head with MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate has a load capacity of 22.1 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. By loosening this XPRO Magnesium Ball Head's primary locking knob, its ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. Toward the ball head's base is a secondary locking knob that controls the ability to rotate the head 360°. An additional knob opposite the secondary locking knob can be rotated to apply tension control to the ball-and-socket joint's movements.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate which measures 2.8 x 2.2 x 0.4".

    Manfrotto BHQ2 reviews

Manfrotto XPRO Magnesium Ball Head with MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Ball Head, no quite Arca-Swiss Standard The MHXPRO-BHQ6 XPRO Ball Head is a great ball head and I got it on an email flash sale here at B&H for a heck of deal. My only issue with it is that the Arca-Swiss plate system doe snot appear to be quite standard. I have had issues with the head accepting plates from other manufacturers. The angle of the wedge on sides of the bottom of the plate (red highlight in attached picture) is sharper than on other plates and as such, other plates may not fit properly in the release system without modification. I was able to machine down the face of a Cotton Carrier plate with a Dremel to match the shape of the Manfrotto system and it works great. Just beware that non-Manfrotto Arca plates may not fit this head without some tweaking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Smooth but could be a lot better I recently purchased this head for a trip to Namibia and found it generally smooth and easy to use. But there are two things that really annoyed me . Firstly the friction control knob fell out within a few days of use and is lost forever, everyone check this little thing as it can rattle out very easily as it has no stopper ! the plate that comes with this head will turn as it has no friction pads to grip onto a body or lens foot, you wont think that thats a deal breaker but trust me it is an absolute pain in the butt and your camera will twist when the head is locked.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Tridod Head for the money. After wanting and trying different Tripod Heads from different companies, I went back and decided on the Manfrotto MHXPRO-BHQ6 XPRO. I have had a couple of Manfrotto Tripods and Tripod Heads in the past and have been satisfied on their performance. The Head is well made and I like that they hollowed out the ball which makes it a lot lighter without a loss in quality. The only complaint I might have is that the pan is a little stiff. For the price and the quality of the head compared to other Heads you can't go wrong. This is going on my older Manfrotto 055xb Legs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Ballhead This ballhead with quick release is well built and easy to use. I like so much about this product except for one small thing. It's very sturdy and wont move at all in every position except when I have it in the vertical/90 degree position there is some spin/looseness no matter which dial is tightened.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid product This ballhead is the best I have used so far. Sure it is heavier, but it is also highly reliable, will not move or sag and secures the camera very well. Excellent for a full frame camera with a heavy lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Ball Head Design, Purchase the 200PL Quick Release I grew up with Manfrotto ball heads and tripods. My push to this ball head over the BHQ2 was the idea that the Arca Swiss connect would bring some standardization to my gear. I recently purchased the Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens, which comes with an Arca Swiss quick connect. I was expecting it to work perfectly; however, I have discovered that there seems to be no standardization across Arca Swiss. The Tamron lens doesn't have a gap where the Manfrotto ball head has the protruding pin in the off-centered middle, so there is no security provided by the Arca Swiss quick connect. An Arca Swiss plate has to be used on the Arca Swiss quick connect on the lens. I would recommend saving some money and getting the standard Manfrotto connector on this ball head design. If you have friends/family on Manfrotto, chances are high that they have the other design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it so far The only real complaints I have is I didnt see anywhere that warned you not to overtighten and with my old one needing to be tightened so much and so often I tended to tighten as much as I could and When I needed to take it off I striped the allan wrench nut and a large flat head wasnt enough to get it off either..Had to find a wide enough piece of metal to get it off and even then it took a great deal of strength. Also the plate on my Carry Speed is jsut slightly wide to fit on it so I have to double plate which creates issues especially now that I am afraid to over tighten.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's smooth to use but it destroyed my lens I bought this ball head with manfrotto tripod during thanksgiving deals in November 2016. It worked great till the last week. I was shooting the milky way during the night at the grand tetons using my Nikon D810 with Nikkor 14-24 mm. I had my gear properly tight and with proper settings. Suddenly in the middle of exposure I heard the big sound and that was the quick release system getting detached from tripod and felt on lens facing downward. Obviously, I destroyed my lens, sent to Nikon for the repairs and now its going to cost me hell lot of money!! I regret buying this system and now I am going for proper arca Swiss type release system with different type of head.
