Manfrotto XPRO Ball head with MSQ6PL Plate Reviews

Great ballhead, terrible Arca-swiss plate

Plan on replacing the QR plate if you get the arca-swiss version. There is no rubber grip on the plate at all, so if you are using an older camera without a rubber bottom the plate just spins. Bought a few arca-swiss $5 plates off Amazon and they work much better. I love the lightness and adjustability of the ballhead, expecially compared to my heavy 410 geared head. The friction control is superior to other options.

Lacks Flexibility

This head works OK with the with the plate that comes with it. Other Arca stye brackets can / do lock into place and cannot be removed. Forget your L bracket which easily snaps into place - now short destruction it is just about permanent. There is a spring loaded pin in the base - why is it there? (Nuisance value is all I can figure out)

What does the small red button near the top of the head do? Thanks.
Asked by: Steven
On the Q6 version of the tripod head that uses Arca-compatible quick release plates, the red button on the quick release clamp of the Manfrotto XPRO Magnesium Ball Head with MSQ6PL Quick Release Plate is designed to be depressed to release the retaining pin which prevents the quick release plate from accidentally sliding off, allowing you to remove the camera and quick release plate from the tripod head.

Asked by: Chengcheng
Peak Design plates are more narrow and will not work with the new Manfrotto arca swiss compatible heads.
