Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens
Key Features
  • F-Mount Lens/FX Format
  • Aperture Range: f/4 to f/22
  • Two Fluorite and Four ED Elements
  • Nano Crystal & Super Integrated Coatings
A long-reaching telephoto optimized for sports, wildlife, and nature shooting, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens features an advanced optical design that both lessens the overall weight of the lens as well as contributes to improved image quality. Two fluorite and four extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the aperture range while Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings help to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and clarity. Complementing the image-enhancing attributes, the lens also incorporates a front fluorine-coated meniscus glass element that, when paired with the weather-resistant magnesium-alloy barrel, supports working in inclement conditions.

Does the AF function when attached to the FTZ ...

Does the AF function when attached to the FTZ adapter and a Z6 or Z7?
Asked by: Roaring
Yes, it does function. I have a Z7. It may be a bit less responsive than with my DSLRs, but it works.

What tripod would you recommend with this lens as well as a Gimbal?

I have mine on a Manfrotto 005 using a ProMediaGear GKJr Katana Pro. This works good but is almost too small.

Anyone use the 600 for sports? I currently use a 300mm f/2.8 on a D850 and find it too short for soccer/rugby fields. great for baseball and basketball. Not sure if I need to go to 400-500-600mm.
Asked by: James
I use the 80-400mm Nikon for soccer and get good results. I've tried it with a 2X converter and went back to the zoom alone.

Would this lens work with my Nikon D7100 camera and would the AF work at all f stops?
Asked by: Anonymous
This lens will work fine with the Nikon D7100. Concern about f/stops comes into play only if the maximum aperture is too small for whatever camera is being used to focus with. This is a concern with tele-extenders and cameras less than the top level. Since you are not using any tele-extender, and the focus aperture is f/4 and the lens will stop down to whatever aperture you select for the shot, there will be no issue regarding AF or f/stops.

There is no mention of using front filters or even whether or not filters are compatible or even whether filters are recommended or not. If filters can be used, what is the filter size? Also what is the front cap size?
Asked by: Bruce
As with any long lens of this size you can buy drop-in filters that go inside the lens in a dedicated slip in area. You can buy circular polarizers and UV Haze 52mm filters for this purpose.I never use any filters because they cut down on your focusing time and also cut down on your light. You are paying all this money for great glass and speed so doing this is totally against the purpose of these lenses. You can adjust and add filters in Photoshop. There is no protective filter to buy for the end of your lens. For this purpose you would simply put your fabric lens cover back over the end of the lens....this does the same job.
