Access internal 2.5" drives from a USB-enabled computer with the USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable from StarTech. This adapter sports a SATA interface that is compatible with SATA I, II, and III-based hard drives and SSDs. On the other end, it has a typical USB type-A connector that utilizes USB 3.0 technology, which delivers speeds of up to 5 Gbps. It draws power from a USB bus-powered port. In addition, UASP enhances the transfer speeds when the adapter is connected to a UASP-enabled host controller.

USB Attached SCSI Protocol
UASP is supported in Windows 8, Mac OS X (10.8 or above), and Linux. In testing, UASP performs with a 70% faster read speed and 40% faster write speed over traditional USB 3.0 at peak performance. It also shows an 80% reduction in required processor resources.

USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Drive Adapter Cable (19.7") is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very handy for quick access to old SATA hard drives. Over the years, I've accumulated a box of old SATA hard drives as I've upgraded capacities in my laptops. While limited in their use right now, these old drives are perfectly functional and many of them still contain legacy files. I normally use an inexpensive USB enclosure whenever I need to access these drives but this adapter cable has proven to be much handier. I just plug a drive onto the SATA connector and plug the other end into a USB port on a computer ... Voila! I get fast USB 3.0 performance from newer drives while preserving USB 2.0/1.1 compatibility with older devices. It doesn't get any easier than this! Perfect!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from USB to SATA adapter cable I used this to clone a Samsung 850 EVO SSD drive on a USB 2.0 port - it works but the Samsung software didn't see the drive. Not sure why the software didn't see it but it worked using Macrium Reflect free without any problems. I am writing this review so that anyone who needs this adapter can see that it does work and if they are having issues with the Samsung software there is at least 1 cloning software that will make this work to clone a hard drive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Adapter Cable for a Good Price! I spent a long time trying to find an adapter from USB 3.0 to Sata. I found one, but it was dead on arrival! So, after some more looking, I found this one! It is a great price for the cable it is, and it works flawlessly! Almost no setup, and it is very fast! I have a small computer repair business, and I use this cable to move data to and from hard drives, and I've yet to have a problem!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plug-and-Play Ease I use this to connect my Ninja 2 SSDs to my PC because the included dock does not work. This adapter is great and offers fast transfer speeds. A must for anyone working with SSD video recording.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed, without breaking the bank I just needed a way to get video files from my SSD cards (recorded on a Hyperdeck Shuttle) into my Mac and didn't want an expensive dock. I will probably end up with a dock for my office, but this cable will stay in my kit so that I can download and review clips on the road without taking bulky hardware along for the ride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked like a charm Bought this adapter to connect my 500 GB internal HD, removed from my old Macbook Pro, as an external HD to my iMac. Everything works as expected. Since the drive still has the OSX 10.6.8 on it, I can hold down the Option key at startup and choose to boot into the external HD. Speed is of course a bit slower since my iMac has only USB 2 ports, but nonetheless it works fine as an additional storage. For a little over $10, this adapter is perfect for reusing an old internal HD instead of buying a new external HD. It's a connector, so don't expect it to protect the HD. The connection is pretty secure, not lose at all. It worked just as well (and faster of course) connected to my Macbook Air's USB 3 port. However, personally I think it is more suitable to be used with a desktop computer than a laptop as you don't want to move the HD around while connected to the computer! Highly recommended if you want to reuse a 2.5 internal HD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The one item that no instructions are required I used this to transfer data from my old laptop Hard drive to my new one for my Macbook Pro early 2011. The adapter made data transfer so easy and took the guessing game out and worry out. I had no data loss and you could not even tell once the transfer was complete that you even switched hard drives. It's just like there was a hard drive in there all this time. The only issue I had was since my laptop runs on usb 2.0 the transfer was slower but if I had a usb 3.0 connection I'm sure the speed would have been quicker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great product to have in your cable inventory. I used this cable to test a HDD that would not show up in Device Manager on my laptop. I used it to test the drive in a standalone configuration. I removed the HDD and used this cable to test the drive. I was able to see everything on the drive and prove that it was working properly. The real problem was a small cable in the laptop was loose and not making contact. This cable saved me a whole lot of time troubleshooting time. I'm really glad I bought it. It's construction and durability look great.
