Aputure LS 1s Overview

  • 1Description

A sleek LED panel with a CRI of 95 and beam angle of 45°, the Light Storm LS 1s from Aputure includes the LED fixture along with a dedicated controller box that accepts V-Mount type batteries.. Aside from providing power to the unit, the included controller box also enables wireless dimming control using the included remote. Four groups and three channels can be employed for quickly switching between different looks.

The Light Storm LS 1s features a slim and durable aluminum alloy housing along with a manual yoke for versatile positioning. A four-way barndoor set offers greater control over the light and ten sheets of included diffusion paper also helps to produce an even, diffuse quality of light. The light control separation design, afforded by the controller box, also maintains a low center of gravity for easier placement of the fixture and easier switching of batteries during use.

  • The light's design incorporates 1536 individual LEDs to produce a beam angle of 25° along with a CRI of 95.
  • Daylight-balanced 5500K color temperature.
Included wireless controller box features a battery plate that accepts Sony V-Mount type batteries for convenient, portable power. An AC/DC cable is also included for AC power.
The controller box, which features two 90° antennas, also permits wireless dimming control using the included 2.4 GHz remote. Four groups and three channels are also available.
  • DMX512 protocol is also supported for wireless control.
  • Aluminum alloy construction is both durable and sleek for use in a variety of conditions.
  • Manual yoke allows for variable positioning. Additionally, a four-way barndoor set is incorporated into the design for further control over the beam.
  • Ten sheets of acid-free, smooth surface diffusion paper is included to broaden the light quality, reduce the output to 85%, and provide an effective 180° beam angle.
  • A LEMO-style connector is used between the controller box and light fixture for convenient, one-handed installation and removal of the included connection cable.

    Aputure LS 1s Reviews

Light Storm LS 1s LED Light with Wireless Controller Box and Sony V-Mount Battery Plate is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best LED light panel I've used I am a dp that shoots just about everything (corporate interviews, music videos, feature films, docs etc). What attracted me first and foremost to this LED is the high CRI rating of 95% +. The color rendering is great, no green or magenta spikes. Very well designed, rugged and light. The wireless remote is a great feature (you can also use the remote to adjust the color temperature on the bi-color model) Not a fan of the shiny barn doors as it is counter productive, but not a deal breaker, just paint them black. This lite panel is a bit spotty so you'll probably be using diffusion with it. I have worked with the more expensive lite panels but the quality of light and build from Aputure is waaaay better and more cost effective. I have heard through some peers that the light will slowly dim when using a battery. Aputure's response is to just make sure you are using a battery that meets their recommended specifications. I have yet to try it myself, will edit post when I test it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Daylight for small studios and beautiful color rendition The Aputure Lightstorm LS-1 gets superior reviews for a reason and after lots of research, the light in person bears out its excellence. The panel is an absolute daylight creator for small studios...bright bright bright without any compromise on quality of color rendition; when I balanced my Fuji for 6K; the rendition was spot on. Love these beasties so much, I got two of them. I think my only reservation is what's been mentioned; panels are not the most controllable of lights (makeshift modifiers required, but hey, that's lighting for you), and the barn doors on this puppy mean that the tilt is restricted unless you take the doors off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from let there be light I bought this light for a combination video/photo work. It's quite bright and works just fine battery powered or plugged into a wall. I did find that when on battery power I can not set the light to more than 90% power or it will turn off. It goes to 100% just fine with wall power. But a battery with different specs might solve that problem. I recently bounced the light off the ceiling in a daylight lit room and it looked completely natural.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the LED I've been waiting for Power metrics listed are spot on. It's amazingly bright. And it DOES throw a fairly narrow beam for an LED light. Color is very, very clean. It's amazingly thin. Never gets hot. Dials up/down in 1% increments. Absolutely silent. No hum. No fans. As cheesy as it is, the paper diffusers they include do make beautiful diffusion. About the only puzzler is why they made the barndoors chrome. They DO reflect odd shaped light at an angle when you put them over the lights, and it could make unwanted light spill. I simply painted mine flat black. Easy. My friend has the bi-color one and it's very nice too. But remember, on the bi-color one, you have to run BOTH sets of colors at full power to achieve max light output metrics. I do have a V-mount adapter that holds two Sony NP batteries. I ran a pair of 7200 mAh batteries in the adapter and put this light at 50% output. It ran for 6.5 hours before it died. Pretty awesome. The yoke is pretty decent construction and the barndoors stay put. The two-part power pack is kind of oddbut I do like it better than having all the controls on the head and a fat transformer onboard. It's really not a hassle. I never tried the wireless controller. The head itself is very thin. I pack the whole thing in a laptop messenger bag, power bricks included.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but be aware of a few flaws. Most reviews are correct about the light output, color, and convenience of having remote functionality, however, there are a few design flaws that will frustrate you on set. First, the light can only barely tilt downward. The barn doors prevent a downward angle. One intuitively thinks to just remove the barn doors to correct this, however, the second fault is they can't be removed, at least not without taking the light apart. Lastly, the barn doors are reflective which isn't exactly ideal for controlling light, however, they can easily be painted a flat black. Mainly, you just need to understand that since you can't remove the barn doors, you'll have to get creative with your C-stand if you want to get the right angles with this thing. Otherwise, it's nearly the perfect LED panel.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BROKE SECOND DAY OF SHOOTING what can I say, sometimes work, sometimes half of led doesn't work. not for professional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright, clean addition to my LED kit Aputure continues to impress me with the quality, output, and affordability of their lights. This light has a spotted beam angle and throws light quite far. Outside it can compete with daylight for full and sometimes a key light. Downsides are the leds are always exposed and there isn't a tray for filters and gels. If an LED breaks, though, you get a few replacements with your purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not good enough For sure the light offers a number of features that I liked very much. It doesn't give the punch you would like to have on a large set. I used it mainly as a fill light. ? The Light Storm LS1 died after my third time using it, ?the customer service is in China, and it will take some time to get the it repaired. In twenty five years in production, I’ve never had a light die on the set, at the most you?get a burned out bulb and you are back on the job in five minutes. Hopefully LEDs get more reliable in the?future. ? ? Apurute should have a program to swap dead ?lights with the vendor and make it easier for the customer to deal with it. Of course the light was out of warranty, but after three times, that’s not good even for a lighter or a match.

Should I be careful in choosing a v-mount battery - ie, which can withstand the current draw of these lights at 100%? Any recommendation?
    Asked by: Siddhartha S.
As long as you stay within the operating voltage of the panel, you could use any V-mount battery from 95Wh and up. Using a 150Wh V-mount battery such as the BLUESHAPE BV150 GRANITE 14.8V V-Mount Lithium-Ion Battery (150Wh, 10.0Ah) B&H # BLBLSBV150 would be a solid choice in terms of run time. That is what I'm using, extend the barn doors and use the Velcro. It's not a perfect fit, but it works.

Can the Anton Bauer battery be charged with panel that comes with the Light Storm?
    Asked by: Rene S.
First the light you clicked on is for V-mount not gold mount but either way the battery plate can be used to charge the battery. You need a battery charger and attach the battery direct to it.

Can this be mounted vertically? I'm a headshot photographer and it would be better if it were in portrait orientation rather than landscape.
    Asked by: Michael F.
Right of the top NO. But im sure there are other alternatives available in order for you to make that happen. But this light is amazing.
