Tamrac Stratus 21 overview

  • 1Description

The Stratus 21 Shoulder Bag from Tamrac is a compact bag designed to accommodate the digital and film SLR cameras with zoom lens attached, 3-4 additional lenses and a flash. It cradles the camera with attached zoom lens using the Lens-Bridge and LensGate Divider Systems. It has a Dual Action Top that provides full coverage to the foam-padded main compartment which supports the camera on foam pillars. For shock protection, the bottom has a thick, foam-padded plastic platform. The bag has a front pocket that uses a memory and battery management system that uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available and which ones are used up.

Inside the top, a windowpane-mesh pocket stores filters, film or cleaning materials. There are two side pockets for accessories. There is a ZipDrop front pocket that has paraphernalia pockets and a mesh pocket to organize small accessories and personal items. In back, a zippered pocket holds maps, tickets and instruction manuals while a Piggy-Back Pocket allows the bag to be slipped over the handle of rolling luggage.

The Stratus 21 has an adjustable, bioCurve shoulder strap and an EasyGrip carrying handle. The bag uses optional Tamrac accessories with the attachment slots for the S.A.S. (Strap Accessory System) products, which customize this compact, professional bag.

    Tamrac Stratus 21 reviews

Stratus 21 Shoulder Bag (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice bag I think that Tamrac makes the best soft bags available. This well made and you can arrange it as needed internally. This can easily handle one large DSLR and a half-dozen lenses. They can gauge their sales and I can't, but as lenses are added, larger bags like their old Super Pro 14 are often needed. Is there a larger Stratus in planning?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tons of storage and durable I am a photographer for the university, which means I need to carry a lot of gear. This bag allows me to carry a 5D MK3 w/ batterygrip, 7D MKII, Tamron 70-200 2.8 DI VC, Tamron 24-70 DI VC, Tamron 90mm Macro VC, Canon EF 50mm, 2 600EX-RTs, extra batteries (both for the cameras and for the flashes), Gary Fond lightsphere with domes and it still has room for a 13 in macbook pro retina. Tons of room, but beware because it can get really heavy to lug around. I also use this as my carry-on when I travel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed bag The bags remain good products. I have used them for years, and own a number of them. They are well made. I have never needed any sort of repairs performed (sometimes manufacturers are willing to do this as a service to customers, sometimes you are entirely on your own, at the mercy of a local shoe repair or whoever you can find who has the equipment required to patch/stitch very heavy cordura nylon; in my case I have never needed any work done). I have not had any problems fitting my equipment into them. However, I know have questions about Tamrac as a company. Tamrac recently offered a rebate promotion on these bags (at the end of 2015). I was induced to purchased several bags. I dutifully filled out the rebate form and sent it off to Tamrac at the provided address, along with my invoices, etc. All of this paperwork came back undeliverable, address unknown. Apparently the USPS does not know how to reach Tamrac, at the address provided by Tamrac (and if Tamrac doesn't know where they are, it would tend to present certain problems to customers). To say the least, in future, I will not consider these sorts of promotions any inducement to buy. In fact, after this experience (which was annoying), I will give careful consideration to ALL of Tamrac's competitors (LowePro, Domke, etc) before considering another Tamrac product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed (really disappointed!!!!!!!!!) I'm a business photographer. I have a Canon 6d with a 7d back up - 24-70 2.8, 35 1.4, 100 2.8, 14 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 50 1.4. I keep the 24-70 on my 6d all the time (use this INCREDIBLE lens 90% of the time) also have a gorilla plate on the 6d for the z-finder. I seldom use flash (most of my jobs are industrial buildings using existing light) I couldn't make anything fit - followed the samples, even goggled more samples, no luck - only short lenses would fit under the 6d/24-70 - and the 6d was hitting against the lid. I keep the lens hood on the 6d (turned around of course) and with the bag design pushing the flaps against the lens so it doesn't nose dive into the bag it completely blocks out carrying anything on the side (so much for the sample image). I use the 70-200 with the tripod collar couldn't make that fit either visa vie the sample image with back-up camera next to it -NO LUCK! I tried every possible combo, no luck. The bag needs to be (at least for my configuration) three inches deeper, six inches wider. Couldn't even begin to fit my 100 2.8, and only one 580 flash anywhere! I really wanted this bag to work! Bummer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what the Doctor ordered! The bag is perfect and what I expected it to be given I have others like it. If met my needs for my DSLR and a few lenses, batteries, etc..... Perfect size and handles weight just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this if (God forbid) I should need to replace it This bag is exactly what I need to carry 2 cameras and accessories. Being a professional photographer I like having a backup camera at all times when I'm being counted on !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag This is a great bag with plenty of room to put all of your gear. I am able to fit 2 bodies, 70-200, 300mm f/4, two small lenses, 2 flashes, 2 radio receivers and trigger, and two battery chargers. All of this inside the bag. Rhere is still a lot of room in the outer compartments for smaller things.
