Its nominal speed of ISO 400/27° offers extensive versatility and latitude, which is further complemented by high sharpness, contrast, and acutance. The film's polyester base has been tested to an LE-500 (life expectancy 500 years) archival rating and, additionally, this clear base is particularly well-suited to scanning applications.

Rollei Retro 400s reviews

Retro 400S Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like Retro 80s with a little more speed and grain I developed this in Xtol 1+1 (12 minutes at 75 F) and in Rodinal 1+34 (10.5 minutes at 75F) and found that it has a high mid-tone contrast with low contrast in the shadows and highlights, very much like the Retro 80s I looked at earlier. The speed worked out to ISO 200 in Xtol and 250 in Rodinal based on middle gray (not the normal FB+fog plus 0.1 density speed point). Because the higher contrast is in the mid-tones, I recommend bracketing. This film can be used creatively wherever you don't mind losing some shadow detail. You will have fun discovering when that works for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shoot at 200, dev at 400 and you'll be pleased Don't expect this to replace Retro 80S but you do get some more speed.
