Gitzo GH1382TQD Overview

  • 1Description

The Gitzo GH1382TQD Series 1 Traveler Center Ball Head is an Arca-type compatible head that is an ideal match for Traveler Series 0 and 1 tripods. It stands 4.1" high, holds up to 24 lb, and weighs 0.9 lb. The head has a separate lock for the 360° panning and another to control the movement of the ball. A tungsten disulfide coating on the ball helps keep the ball movement smooth and minimizes stick-slip. A screw-knob lock tightens down on the included quick-release plate and a bubble level helps you maintain straight horizons in your images.

    Gitzo GH1382TQD Reviews

GH1382TQD Series 1 Traveler Center Ball Head is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gitzo GH1382TQD Overall this is a fantastic ball head from Gitzo. I have been using Markins ball heads for many years, which are truly incredible, but for a smaller travel tripod (Gitzo GT1545T) I went ahead with this head considering it would make a perfect match. I'm using this with the Sony A7RII camera and have found the setup to be very sturdy. Very nice setup. My only reason for not giving this 5 stars is due to the traditional screw-down release; I would have much more preferred the more modern quick-release lever found on the Markins.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great improvement over the previous generation This head is a great improvement over the previous generation of Gitzo arca-type heads. Specifically this head will accept a much wider range of arca-type plates than its predecessors. I tested Kiwi and ProMediaGear plates on this head and they work fine, they did not work on the lever-closure Gitzo arca-type heads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely engineered hardware This replaces the ball head that came with my traveller tripod. It was fine but couldn't support the weight of my D800 + lens if oriented portrait. The new ball head is solid at all orientations, and the tripod still folds up beautifully with the new ball head attached - a remarkable piece of engineering.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4 stars for lost knob Great piece of work, rock solid almost on any surfaces holding 5D Mark III + 70-200 (2.5 kg), but the reason I give only 4 stars is that one of adjustment knob (bigger one) was unscrewed and has been lost on my way to the airport. As a result I was travelling 10 days with 1.5 kg of useless piece of metal and with no any long exposure and time lapse shots. Quite dummy for this price tag not to have stopper and let the knobs get out just like that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Gitzo almost perfect A great match for my Gitzo 1544. The one drawback, and the reason I ultimately ended up returning it, was because it did not have a separate friction control dial. I felt that was too important not to have, especially at this price point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lightweight Ballhead I ordered this ballhead to go on my Traveller 1 tripod. I use this setup with my small mirrorless camera. This ballhead is great. It holds my camera firmly in any direction without slipping. It does not need a friction knob for these small cameras. You can keep enough friction on with the main knob to hold the camera in place and still make minor movements. I was very surprised at how good this ballhead really is. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gitzo does it right A beautiful piece of engineering. Tightens true without any shimmy, stays in position, no wobble, no worries. This tripod head just does its job competently, with authority.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Ballhead I use this with a mirrorless camera and it is perfect for a camera that size. Don't worry about the friction knob - the coating or design of this ballhead keeps it from flopping around. It has plenty of friction. It works great with a small travel Gitzo tripod.
